Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
RNanon- What was your critical thinking score on the HESI? Also, did you already have all of your prerequisites completed before applying? I have pretty much identical stats to you and I was adccepted with the first round in late October. I do have 4+ years of healthcare experience, but only an Associate's degree (from completing all of my prerequisites). I'm really sorry to hear that they still have you waitlisted. Your stats are just as competitive, if not more competitive than everyone else's. I would say that you shouldn't give up and you will probably be admitted for the summer start if you apply again. They had around 1,200 applicants for the Spring and only 10% were accepted, so it's really a mystery how they decided. I feel like my healthcare experience helped me out, but it's not a requirement.
Hello everyone! I haven't commented in a while but I have decided I wanted to give hopes to those who are waitlisted. One thing for sure, be happy you did not get denied as there were 1200 applicants this semester, which has been the most they have had in a REALLY long time. I know how bad the feeling is when you get waitlisted as I was waitlisted in another school. However, most of those who have gotten accepted have not even registered for classes (maybe like 10 have) and it is because most of us are taking the last few classes needed to even get in the program. EXAMPLE: I got accepted but I am not in the program yet, my acceptance is on hold until I pass two classes, which they have been such a death sentence for me but I am feeling good about it. Some people are even taking like 4 classes this semester.
All I am saying is just to keep your hopes up and TRUST GOD. There is always a reason for everything. I failed my TEAS 5x and got denied at TWU and waitlisted at UTMB to just get accepted at UTHealth.
Advice I give those who are waitlisted: APPLY FOR SUMMER PROGRAM ALREADY, THE APPLICATION IS FAIRLY CHEAP COMPARED TO OTHERS.
ALSO, start on your immunizations, titers (there are TWO immunization worksheets; both look familiar but there are differences, print them out and get them started), background check, drug screening, cpr, etc. because if you get off the waitlist and have not done all of that, you will not be able to register for classes and that means you wont get in for Spring and will have to do the process all over again (as an applying).
Good luck you guys!!
I also would like to just let the people know who have been waitlisted that there is hope. I got denied at UTMB and my TEAS score wasn't all that great so I didn't bother to apply to TWU & on top of that I repeated a couple of courses bc I messed up horribly my freshman year of college so I wasn't even able to apply to PV. I put all my eggs in one basket and luckily got into UTHealth. However, I was waitlisted for a week and then UTHealth accepted me. So just hang in there! There is still hope.
I'm enrolled in my last 3 classes and will easily make A's for all of them. My critical thinking wasn't great so maybe that could be why. Definitely overthought it. here are my scores
math:100
reading:92
vocab: 96
grammer: 96
AP: 84
CT: 780
science: 4.0
overall 4.0
bachelors degree gpa: 3.96
My friend's scores were better. Looked at the new hesi requirements on the website and apparently they're not requiring critical thinking anymore.
Hopefully if I apply to summer and fall, they won't even consider the critical thinking portion.
Does anybody know where I can get a drug test done and how I can send the results to UT?
also, I had the HEP vaccine series done when I was a kid, do they still count, or I have to get vaccines done again?
finally, how do I send or upload my vaccine record to the school?
somebody please answer!
thanks.

Hi yes once you are admitted they email you about an evalue account and then you upload your vaccines and titers there. You also upload them on myUTH. As for the drug screen you pay first with surscan and then they'll randomly drug test you and they'll send the results right to the school you wont have to submit anything for that.
You will need to get titers for Hep B as well as Varicella. They are both required by the program regardless of wether or not you have proof of the series. I also had the Hep B vaccine when I was a kid and my titers were too low, so I had to repeat the series. Immunity starts to wane after anywhere from 10-20 years. I had the chicken pox and the same thing happened with my varicella titers, so I had to do that immunization series too. It is okay if your titers come back negative because you will be fine as long as you show proof of restarting the series. Check their website for the most updated immunization requirements.Does anybody know where I can get a drug test done and how I can send the results to UT?also, I had the HEP vaccine series done when I was a kid, do they still count, or I have to get vaccines done again?

Hey everyone,
I've been keeping up with every single post on here but haven't commented yet, hoping to get off the waitlist. I called today and was able to get Joann on the phone. I asked her if there was an estimated date that we would find out about acceptances and denials. I mentioned that the November 15th date has passed and asked if there was an updated date that we would find out about acceptances. She said "oh no, we sent out all acceptances and denials out on November 15th" Really? She also mentioned that if you were on the waitlist, they have until the 2nd week of December to notify you.
I'm pretty confused because not a single person here mentioned they were accepted last week at all and this is the most active thread I have seen! All I have seen are those that have been denied. Zero acceptances...
If anyone has been keeping up with this and got accepted on or after November 15th, please comment!
btw, my stats are 4.0 overall and 4.0 science and a 94% on the Hesi. My good friend with grades like mine got waitlisted twice. We both have bachelors degrees from universities. Idk what they're looking for.. :/
