Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
@lstjohn1. Yes I did . But they required an economics or finance class which I didn't have . I recently registered for the class but it was too late according to them . To be honest, I have a friend who graduated from there and she told me to chose another school instead so I chose UT . But looks like I won't be going to either :/ .... But with your stats you will for sure get in ! They aren't too picky on high gpas. My friend was accepted with a 3.2 gpa and an 84 in A&P on the HESI.
About 2 months ago I received acceptance from UTMB but I was still waiting on a decision from UTHealth. I was torn between the two schools but I was leaning more towards UT Health. So about 3-4 weeks ago I finally received my transcript evaluation from UTHealth. I noticed I was short hours because they forgot to count my 9 hours worth of AP credits from high school. Because of this I knew I had to call them in order to fix this. But much to my dismay, I have never come into contact over the phone with such a rude and unprofessional staff! I was very nice and patient over the phone. But the staff on the other end were so rude! She completely cut me off every time I asked a question and seemed so uninterested to help me. She said she was 100 percent sure she didn't see my AP credits from my transcript from UH Main Campus. I kept asking her if she was sure because I had a copy of my transcript right in front of me! And she still said no. I even asked what they could do because my sociology credit was under electives so they didn't count it towards my sociology credit. She said "don't worry about it, and also turn in a new transcript if you want but it all supposed to be turned in by september 1st." Even after all this I still thanked her for her time, and she just ended the call. I called again hoping I could talk to someone else. I managed to talk to another person and I told her my problem. She pulled up my transcript and she said she didn't see it. I once again said are you sure and i told her where it could be.Finally....she goes ohhh I think I do see it...And all i could think was are you kidding me?!?!?! They are paid to properly evaluate our transcripts and if I wasn't so persistent they wouldn't have even found it. And it just made me so mad that the previous person (IN CHARGE OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS may I add) said she is 100 percent sure she didn't see it. And the fact that the person I talked to said I should be worried that my sociology credit is under the wrong place just makes me more upset. This just goes to show you the staff at UTHEALTH does not care about you as an individual. I even asked for this new persons name (by the way she said she couldn't help me and told me to call a new number) and she responded sure "but please don't get me introuble."....(what kind of faculty says this especially of a top nursing school). I was redirected to over the phone 3 times before I was even helped and they changed it. UNBELIEVABLE. And just the fact that my issue was fixed so close to the date where they send acceptances..I can't even explain to you how strongly I feel about how unreliable they are. I will not even wait for a final decision from that. I WILL GLADLY ACCEPT MY POSITION AT UTMB BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS BEFORE THEY ARE EVEN ADMITTED. UTMB cares about the person as a whole that's why they ask for a personal statement and interview. I didn't have issues with UTMB and they were always open to helping me. I can tell you from my interview with them that they are indeed a great staff. SO for those of you who got rejected even with high scores consider this a blessing because the staff at UT Health is terrible. GO APPLY TO UTMB!
MY STATS
- I go to UH MAIN
GPA : 3.75 overall & pre/nursing
GPA(science) : 3.5
HESI 91 Percent
CRITICAL Thinking 920
* no repeats or drops in any classes, volunteer weekly at a hospital, and work part time
just remember guys if you wont fight for your future no one else will! don't give up your dreams because of one rejection especially from an unorganized staff! best of luck guys!
I'm willing to bet someone from admissions reads this thread, hell I would if I worked there! TWU admissions/registrar actually comments on the TWU thread from time to time when trying to provide updates during their process. I realize no one from UTH comments on here but I think it's highly likely they at least read it.
I really doubt anyone will hear anything else until at least Monday. That will be after the 10 days the first wave had to accept or reject. Probably a lot of people who were wait listed will then be accepted and new people will be added to the wait list to take their places. I think this is why they say that they haven't sent all the acceptances/wait list letters yet.
Hi I am an applicant to UTHealth science center spring 2017. I am currently waitlisted. These are my stats: overall GPA: 4.0. Science GPA: 4.0. hesi score: Cumulative score: 93.6%. Reading: 100%. Grammar: 94%. Vocabulary: 94%. A&P: 84%. Math: 96%. Critical thinking: 870. After reading most of this thread, I'm kind of annoyed I got waitlisted. My stats are just as competitive as most of the people on here who were accepted. Furthermore, my application was evualuated incorrectly twice. The first time I was told I did not meet the history requirements, which was an error. I told them to please reevaluate. They did reavaluate and I was approved for history but the second time around they told me I did not meet the requirements for Intro Philosophy, which was an error again on their end. I asked them to re-evaluate which they did, but by the time I got my approved and correct transcripts evaluation I received an email notifying me I was waitlisted. What an unprofessional, sloppy, and downright poor quality system. I can't help but wonder if they had evaulated my transcripts correctly the first time would I have been accepted instead of waitlisted? Perhaps they had already chosen the class before they realized they messed up my evaluations. Not impressed. I was accepted into TWU and the accelerated second bachelors degree program at UH. I confirmed my acceptance to UH. Both of these schools were efficient and professional in their evaluation process. Very dissapointed in UTHealth science center.

That's amazing congrats
The UH program was my dream program but I couldn't get all the prettiest reqs done working on the right now.
All the nurses I know from UH program get jobs faster.
I think hospitals like them one friend of mine for hired in the ICU as a new grad and is making good money. I don't think UTH would have given her the same opportunity
I went to a university, have a 4.0, worked part time through college, and also have volunteer and shadowing experience at a hospital, but I was waitlisted. My first degree is in Biology so I've taken upper level science courses as well. I'm not sure how the selection process works, but considering how sloppy and unprofessional the admissions staff is it makes me really feel like they miss out on great students and don't really take the time to review everyone's application fairly. Other schools use Nursing CAS and this seems to help eliminate errors with transcript evualuations.

When were you waitlisted? Last cycle or this cycle for spring 2017?

@campos08 did you apply to Prairie View for spring 2017 as well? I still haven't heard anything from them either!
