Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
Yeah, I also received my bachelor's degree from UT Austin in 2013, so I don't think they consider previous degrees.
Anyway, I just called again and asked how some people get admitted with lower scores vs. higher scores etc.... She (a different woman than last time) said they have not sent out all of the acceptance notices. I also asked how they process applications, but she did not know the answer to that. She did say that she doesn't believe that there is any specific order.
I got say @AHawkins I love your tenacity and persistence with UTH! Thanks for the update. What boggles me though is how they already sent the waitlist out...when I applied back in the Spring for Fall admittance it was almost the same day that waitlist and denials were sent. Perhaps they're experimenting with a new method??
Hello everyone!! I was accepted& thought I'd share some things that might have to do with being admitted. Based on the transcript evaluation they sent me I have a 4.0 in pre reqs& science GPA...but a lot of you ALSO have amazing GPAs. My only guess that could of made me stand out is that I've taken around 21 extra hours of mainly science electives (because I wasn't sure exactly what part of the medical field I wanted to pursue)& got As in those extra classes. You can also see on my transcripts that I was in the Honors College. I have been a full-time student& worked the entire time I was in school (20-30 hrs a week). Lastly, I attended a university, versus a community college. My Hesi scores are nothing to be impressed with, 92 A&P & 870 CT. Some of you guys have much higher Hesi scores!! These are just a few things I could think of, but besides that I have no idea. Everyone works so hard, everyone deserves it! I really do think that not all admittance have been sent out. Hang in there guys! Best of luck.

My situation is different than Cash2017. I have been a part-time student with a full time job. I have only attended community college, taking regular classes, not involved in the honors college. I do have a good GPA (3.89 prereq, 4.0 science, but only a 3.565 overall). I do not a lot of extra electives, especially in the sciences.
So really, I have no clue what they are really looking for. Both of us were accepted, but with completely different backgrounds.
Alright, so this is my theory...if the program has 120 spots and they send out acceptances in rounds of 30 giving each round of people 10 days to accept/decline their admission offer, then naturally those students on the wait list would get the spots of those that declined or failed to accept. So, if the last round of acceptances did in fact go out today (that's my understanding from what I read earlier in the thread, not sure if there's still another round to go), that means the 10-day window for those applicants just opened up and closes on Nov. 6th. That means that in the following days leading up to the 15th (the date the UTHealth website says you'll know for sure whether you're accepted or declined), the waiters will be notified of their possible admission and those who are declined will know also. I hope this helps ease the minds of those of you still anxiously waiting Best wishes to those of you on the wait list or if you haven't heard back...it's not November yet so please don't lose hope!!!
I took my HESI under a different school code and it was said there were no restrictions on how many times one could take it. I applied to UT Health Science in Houston and also others. I took the HESI 3 times (under same school code)- I passed all 3 times but I just wasn't satisfied with first 2 scores. I read that UTHS does not allow to take more than 2x!!!! Did I mess up???
From my understanding (this is also on the UThealth website), they'll accept your scores as long as you took all the sections they require...math, reading, vocabulary, grammar, anatomy/physiology (not sure about critical thinking cause I no longer saw that on their page). You would just need to send a transcript of the scores you're most comfortable with through Elsevier to UTHealth.
