Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

I live pretty close to the campus, so luckily, I will not have to worry about moving or a long commute if I get in! I am within 10 miles of the school :)

I do plan on moving after nursing school. My dream is to move to a more country setting. I have been in the city for too long.

If i get accepted(well when i get accepted; I'm trying to stay positive:)), I will have to move from Temple TX to Houston(3 hours away). I wont really be moving moving cause my family lives here in Temple, but just moving for school temporarily and I will be coming back to Temple every holiday or so. I would also love to have roommates and hoping for cheaper housing options or student housing. Anything affordable and closer to campus and clinicals as i am a lot younger and do not have that much money to spend on housing. I do not even think i'll be bringing my car, but i"m not sure yet. I would also love to get a part time job(hopefully in a hospital setting) just to help with bills, books, personal stuff, etc and to also gain some extra clinical experience. This is the longest wait of my life, my heart skips every time i think about this whole thing. I really hope i get in.

Good Morning fellow applicants :)

in anticipation of getting in, I decided to get a start on the tasks we will need to take care of before starting.

I signed up for the CPR for healthcare providers. The Junior Leaque of Houston offers free classes. I am enrolled in a course that is held on Nov 2 and Nov 9 from 6pm-9.

I have also started my immunizations.

For anyone taking titers (if you already have immunizations, they can take a while to come back, I think mine originally took a week or so.

Where did you go to get your titers? Is there a cheaper place than drs office?

I had mine done at my doctor's office in Chicago, in 2010 when I was getting my EMT License.

I've heard if you are accepted the UT Student Health Services is the cheapest option. I personally wouldn't risk that, because the registration dates are so close to when we find out. But it is doable. Also, I'm not sure how much insurance covers. It can be pricey. Also, remember there is one shot we returning students do not need because of age, we sign a waiver. I cannot remember which one it is.

If you are 22 or over you do not need the meningitis vaccination :)

Since insurance doesn't usually cover titers, I've had luck with anylabtestnow.com (close to where I live, but there are plenty of other labs) and RediClinic. Flu and Tdap I'm getting at Walgreens.

Did any of you completed the HEP B series?

Yes in college

I completed my HEP vxs series about 3 years ago, but I did not follow the protocol that UT states on their vxs guidelines. Between my 1st and 2nd shot of HEP vx series, I waited like 6 months and then I finally got my third vx about a year after the 1st one. Hopefully, they will consider my HEP series.

I just had titers done at the Dr's office. It was the cheapest option because I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. I had an acceptable level of immunity with everything except MMR, so that will be the only vaccine I need to get.

Wish i I had known about the free CPR class! Mine was $40.... not too bad.
