Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

However those scores must include a lot of people who did not apply or did not finish their applications, because for example the AP score is below the school's acceptable threshold.

Thank you! I ended up finding it in my evolve account. However, my scores are different from the ones you listed.

Vocab- 77%

Reading Comp.- 78%

Anatomy and Physio- 70%

Grammar- 80%

Math- 84%

Critical thinking- 758

...very weird, I wonder if taking the HESI at different times accounts for the difference in percentages or if they are looking at different versions of the HESI.

Also, did you see that the recommend score on the evolve account for critical thinking is 900?

I got an 870 on critical thinking so this has me worried. I remember the website saying 750, but the discrepancy scares me.

Another thing, critical thinking scores are no longer being used in admission decisions after Spring 2017 (our application period)...

I really don't understand why they keep taking components out of the admission process. How the heck do they decide who is supposed to get in?!

To answer your questions:

Should I wait until completing AP II to do the HESI? Or go ahead after I've completed I?

Will be doing chem/micro in summer- would any of you all recommend I do one of these with AP II instead?

Yes!!! Ap 2 is very important! You learn about organs, hormones, blood and so much more. You should definitely take Ap 1 & 2 before taking the HESI. Remember, you only get limited chances at taking the HESI.

Does anyone know what counts as electives? I have a medical math class that I took- would this qualify? Since I cannot actually start my application online (still too early), I'm having difficulty knowing what to take.

Yes, that will count. Any classes count as long as its not a nursing class. For example, I took math courses previously and I'm using those towards my elective credits. Print out the Pre req list and check off all the classes you've taken with the grade you made besides that. You can use it as a foundation to calculate what classes you need to take next. Remember* you can take classes more than once to get a higher grade.

Good luck! Stay positive!

I've been trying to sign onto the myuth portal, and it will not let me in, it just circles back to the sign in page.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Nope! Logged in 30 mins ago.

I AM SO NERVOUS!!!!

Seriously.... I don't know if I am competitive enough.. Who knows EXACTLY what they look for but I really hope it is everything I am putting down in my application. I turned in my application a bit early too. I believe it was around August 6th.

STATS:

Overall nursing GPA: 3.75

Science GPA: 3.50

HESI overall: 84.60%

MATH: 88%

READING: 86%

GRAMMAR: 82%

VOCAB: 84%

A&P: 92%

Critical Thinking: 840

I am currently in an honors program at my school, never retaken any classes, and always been a full-time student. Eh... so nervous I am not competitive enough. All of your scores are so up there, seriously.

Just hope we all get in.. everyone who is in this forum. Time is getting near and for some reason past application periods, they send out e-mails in the end of October so lets hope this waiting game ends soon. Ahhhhh... GOOD LUCK YALL.

86.40% critical thinking!! **

@sophielopez you have a fairly high GPA and HESI scores! I think you're a competitive applicant. I guess we will all find out in a couple of weeks who gets in! Good luck to everyone

What course did y'all use/are y'all going to use to fulfill your Microbiology requirement?

I took mine at UTSA. I took Intro to Microbiology (3hrs)& then Intro to Microbiology Lab (1hr).

Well, I got into UH's second degree program. Just sent my acceptance of the invitation so it's official! UTHealth started off as my first choice, but slowly slid down and now they can't have me! I havent heard hardly anything from them this whole time anyway... I had to let UH know by Oct. 14 and UT doesn't let us know anything until November so I guess my decision is made. Best of luck to all you guys!!

Well, I got into UH's second degree program. Just sent my acceptance of the invitation so it's official!
