UTA Fall 2013

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those applying to UTA for Fall 2013; AP or on-campus. I will be applying to both and am hoping to find a job at a partnered hospital before the January 5, 2012 deadline.

WOW that's a lot of hours!! You must manage your time really well. Good luck to all of your classes :D

It is a ton of hours - I live by a post-it note system. I write down on a post-it for each class what is due for that week and cross it off as I do it. Each post-it has it's own color so I know what class it is for. I started this system in the fall of 12 when I started the CON at UTA and it worked great - I finished the semester with a 3.5 GPA and I took 21 hours that semester. I didn't use it last semester when I only took 12 hours and I found myself behind a lot. So here we are back with the post-it notes lol.

How many people in Cohort 9 have clinical experience? I was just wondering if I am going to be the only person to arrive at clinicals who does not even know the basics. :/ I have never worked in a health care setting before.

Hi Bryt

Lol. I hear you, I did the exact same thing 2 years ago when I took 10 classes (4 sciences included) in the Fall of 2011) and found it to be effective in keeping myself on track. Good job!!

Wow, I have read through almost all of these 74 pages. It's like reading a suspense thriller novel as everyone awaits their acceptance letters. I knew UTA was competitive but damn!

I'm totally new to this, I just decided on a career change into nursing and hope to work into a Practitioner program. I have just applied to UTA with the goal of a January application to the AP BSN program targeting a September 2014 start. I am curious what are the different "considerations?" It's info overload for me so perhaps I haven't come across the listing online yet.

I have a BA from another university with a GPA of 3.53 and a MFA with a 3.89 GPA. I am taking General Chem 1411, Biology 1411, US History 1302, Govt 2302, and Sociology 1301 this summer through DCCCD but wonder if I should take those through UTA as a consideration for the 30 hrs? I already have the first semester of History and Govt from my BA. Then I hope to finish the other prereqs by January through UTA online: Statistics, Micro, Developmental Psych, Anat I & II, Tech Writing. Anat II would probably be finished after the deadline but I would have 4 of the science classes complete.

I'm curious about the partnership listings too. Is that only provided by your advisor or is it posted online somewhere? I don't think I could manage getting a job considering my current full-time employment salary will be used to pay for this career change. But I would like to be as competitive as possible. Also, if you are wait listed what does that exactly mean? Does it give you a spot for a future cohort? Or are you reevaluated again against the applicant pool for a later session?

Cheers!

I'm sure there will be a large gradient of experience. I have quite a bit, but I'm sure a lot will have next to no experience. It's these different backgrounds that make the program successful.

@ bamfabsnmsnnp

I do believe that you will have no problem getting into the program as you already have a Masters degree and real world experience, I got in with an MHA as main consideration.

And taking your prereqs at DCCCD is a good idea, plus saves you money at the same time ;-)

Also, the partner hospital list is given by the clinical instructor, or your advisor may know earlier on, and inform you, it depends.

Being waitlisted just puts candidates on the list to be called if someone who was accepted decides to go to school elsewhere, otherwise you'll be reevaluated with the next application period.

Hope this helps.

And oh, the "considerations" are:

1) previous degree

2) 30 hours or more at UTA

3) And hospital partnership

All the best!!!

Also, I found this list in another post, it's for some of the clinical locations:

THR Arlington Memorial

TBD (THR)

TBD (THR)

Baylor Medical Center

Parkland & Dallas Children’s

John peter Smith (JPS) & Cook Children’s

HCA Plano

then in Houston they have:

Please be advised that THR entities are NOT partnered anymore.

What do you mean by not partnered anymore? They are still clinical sites atleast for our cohort.

Wrong post. Yes they are clinical sites but not partnered in regards to considerations. Sorry for the confusion :)

What I understand, from the didn't-get-into-fall2013 meeting last month, that THR is only taking NS with previous degrees, not from their own staff.
