UTA Fall 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I thought I would start a thread for those applying to UTA for Fall 2013; AP or on-campus. I will be applying to both and am hoping to find a job at a partnered hospital before the January 5, 2012 deadline.

I've been called off the waiting list today. I didn't accept it yet since I live in dfw, and the only available clinical is about 100 miles away. I have 2 little children. If I will be able to arrange the child care, I'll take it.

For those who curious my stats are: science gpa 3.75, overall gpa 3.83, 2 considerations, not partnered.

Specializes in NICU/PICU.

Where is the clinical exactly and is the schedule fixed or flexible? I'm in DFW too and working towards starting the Sept '14 cohort.

I have just accepted the spot in Denison. They also offered in Longview but it is almost 3 hours drive compare to 1.5 hour to Denison. So I'll start this fall. I don't know anything about clinicals yet, waiting for the email.

Wow, that is quite a drive! Hopefully they bundle the schedule for you in easy chunks. Thanks for the info.

Hello,

I am looking to start UTA online RN to BSN in the fall of 2013 and looking to network with others in the program who might have some feedback....particularly any older nurses like myself who are coming back to school after YEARS of working! I am nervous, even though in my day I was a great student, but I've spent any extra time (through the mothering of 3 kids through the years) on obtaining professional certifications that, at the time, were considered more immediately necessary and recognized than getting the BSN. With the years of experience I found the certifications helped me at the time, but now that my youngest is entering college, I want to complete my BSN and pursue my MSN....all because I WANT it now, not because anyone is pushing me. I am primarily looking for a program that is 1) fully accredited, 2) completely online without any major clinical time in a hospital etc as I feel that is not the direction I plan to take with my BSN. I do not mind projects or doing some sort of documented time spent learning, but emptying bedpans and making beds and changing dressings again or pushing a med cart would make me cringe at this point in my career and life. or even doing leadership activities in a hospital setting ....not up my alley. I found hospital nursing so unfulfilling, but I realize many excel in that setting and I thank God for those nurses. I have found my niche outside the hospital, but at the same time I now truely find myself WANTING to pursue my education instead of feeling like I HAVE TO. Also, 3) it has to be affordable since I will be paying myself. SO I am looking for feedback on UT-Arlington's online RN to BSN for older nurses who have not been in class in many years.....don't laugh....but as I read about the threads on technical writing I have to cringe because this is a foreign language to me coming in at this point in my career. I have no idea what you're even talking about, lol with the diff styles of writing!! Boy am I about to bite off more than I can chew!! I can't help but look at it like this....I bit off more than I could chew (or knew I was getting into) when I started my first nursing program fresh out of high school and I made it through somehow and every job after that was a stab in the dark ....until I just put one foot forward and started doing it.....and one door has opened another all along the way, so hoping I can get through this to see what new things will come with further education. Good luck to all those new nurses out there who were smarter than I was to do it ASAP fresh out of your initial program! Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Lharvick it won't let me reply to your message

Just got called off wait list. I live in DFW and was called for Longview. I accepted not wanting to risk not getting another call. Anybody else in DFW driving to Longview?

LMH- would you mind answering on this blog?

Lharvick no I have not been called yet, I did hear that someone got a spot in the JPS/cooks partnership that wasn't partnered

Wait really? I thought they were suppose to fill the spots with partnered applicants first then if space was available fill them in with non-partnered applicants.

That's what I thought also its a little disheartening.
