    Texas tech msn - administration

Hey all. I was recently accepted into the TTUHSC Nursing Administration graduate program. That being said, I'm curious if anyone has attended this program before. What are the pros/cons? How often did you have to travel to campus? How long did the program take? I completed the online orientation this weekend and it looks like I'm only scheduled for 6 hours this semester, is this standard for a MSN? I was hoping to take 9hrs a semester.

    UTA Fall 2013

It is a ton of hours - I live by a post-it note system. I write down on a post-it for each class what is due for that week and cross it off as I do it. Each post-it has it's own color so I know what class it is for. I started this system in the fall of 12 when I started the CON at UTA and it worked great - I finished the semester with a 3.5 GPA and I took 21 hours that semester. I didn't use it last semester when I only took 12 hours and I found myself behind a lot. So here we are back with the post-it notes lol.

Where did you get assigned clinicals at?

    UTA Fall 2013

I am off of Parmer near 35. I am taking 20 hours this summer trying to finish up. I'm taking History, Stats, Lit, and Chem from ACC, Tech Writing from UTA, and Patho from Paris Jr College Online. I know it sounds like a lot, but I've taken way more than that before at a time. I just have to make sure to manage my time wisely.

    UTA Fall 2013

I have an Android tablet and an iPhone - I've used e-textbooks before and prefer to have the real deal in front of me. I'm more of a hands on/read-write learner. What promo video are you seeing?

    UTA Fall 2013

I am married, but my husband's grandparents live in Baytown. I am going to be going to Baytown on Wednesday mornings and coming back to Austin on Sunday evenings after clinicals. I'm going to try the travelling back and forth because I work for South Austin Medical Center right now and would like to keep my position so it is easier for me to slide into a nursing position after graduation. However, Pasedena isn't far from Baytown we can definitely meet up and be study buddies. If you want we can go down together for the orientation in August and half a hotel room since it is only one day.. Assuming you don't have your hotel by then.

    UTA Fall 2013

The clinical locations are decided upon ranking points - my first choice was already full I'm really hoping someone else will be travelling as well and we can share a hotel room. The only other option that I have is to stay in Baytown, TX which is about an hour away and drive back and forth. I'm just not positive I want to spend all that time in a car or not

    UTA Fall 2013

I'm hoping that I won't be the only crazy individual making the drive - or at least someone else will be travelling if not travelling from Austin. I would be absolutely ok with going in on a hotel room with another student to cut costs, and even do homework and talk about clinical stuff together... The cohorts are 10 people each so I'm hoping that we can all form a bond/friendship as it is going to be a long 15 months.

    UTA Fall 2013

@stash11 - I called *** and talked with her for almost an hour. The ranking process actually determines where you are placed in clinicals. That's why I got Brazosport. She did tell me that clinicals will be on Sat/Sun and test day is Thursday at 1pm for the cohort. However, Austin has a testing center so I will only have to travel for tests when we take our HESI exit exams each semester. Only downfall to that is that since I will be testing in Austin I will have to pay for my tests where if I were testing in Brazosport, I wouldn't have to pay anything.

ONLY Accepted into Fall 2013 AP-BSN-- Start Sept. 9, 2013

I just received a phone call this afternoon - I was assigned Brazosport clinicals.. Looks like I will spend a lot of travelling time.. I live in Austin. I emailed ( name redacted per site ToS) to as if there was anyway I could get clinicals changed (I doubt there is once they are assigned), but I had to try anways. I was hoping for Bayshore if I got Houston clinicals because I have family in Baytown. Oh well - I'm still just so happy that I will be starting the program...
  12. I'm starting this thread for those of us who have gotten our acceptance letter to UTA for the AP BSN program. I received a phone call today stating that my clinical site would be Brazosport Regional Health System in Lake Jackson. I'm extremely happy that I was accepted and assigned clinicals. However, here is the kicker.... I LIVE IN AUSTIN. Lake Jackson is about 3 hours away from me. My current plan - provided everything is perfect - is to travel on the day before clinicals, and get a hotel room for that night and the night of the first clinical day, and come home after clinicals on the second day. I've read other posts about skills testing and proctored testing being done at the clinical site - does anyone know if this is done during our clinicals or on a different day? Also, if there is anyone from Austin that was assigned this clinical site, I'd like to hear from your point of view also...

    UTA Fall 2013

The first semester is going to be the most expensive, however after looking at the "textbook bundles" those prices seem to drop after each semester.

    UTA Fall 2013

I just got a phone call from the UTA Clinical Coordinator. I have been assigned clinicals at Brazosport Regional Health System. Here's the kicker: I LIVE IN AUSTIN. Which means that is about a 3 hour drive. Since Austin isn't a clinical site currently I knew I would have to travel for clinicals regardless. I think my plan right now is to leave the day before clinicals, get a hotel near the hospital, and leave to come back to Austin the last day of clinicals. That's the plan in a "perfect" world. Is there anyone else from the Austin area assigned to this site, or has anyone else been assigned this site?

UTA AP BSN Remote Locations Fall 2012

You do NOT have to work w/ a Partnered Hospital. I have started finishing up my pre-reqs for the program, and have been accepted by the College of Nursing to take Pharm, Patho, and Intro to Nursing. I would be happy to email with you about my experience so far. My email is brytian83@gmail.com I currently work for HCA- St. David's Austin, but while we are part of the Academic Partnership for the RN-BSN program, but do not offer clinicals at or facilities. So if accepted I'd have to travel to DFW, San Antonio or Houston for clinicals. I'm willing to stay in a hotel for clinicals just to get a BSN soon. From what I hear the Department of Education is going to change the entire nursing profession to BSN before too long. :oBryt

UTA AP BSN Remote Locations Fall 2012

I am accepted by the UTA CON and finishing up my "general studies" courses to apply to the AP BSN. I do work for an HCA company in Austin, but would still have to travel for clinicals. My question to you is what was your GPA? & HESI Score? Thanks, Bryt
