Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...
Post away!
I am also partnered with baylor, I am applying for Spring 2013 and I was wondering how was your GPAs for sciencience and overall. I noticed that you were waiting listed; how was that process for Baylor employees applicants? Do you know how many were accepted? I am a little nervous... this is my first time applying and my science GPA is 3.75 and Overall 3.86. Do you think I am competitive for the Ap program ? Thank you
I know it helps to have a high science GPA, partnered with a hospital, AND having more course hours taken at UTA. I think because the program has become so competitive, that they had to start using the extra considerations. Being waitlisted is a good thing. Even if you don't get called I would still try again. You might have better luck the next round. Good luck to you all. I bet mid-May is when they will start making calls for those on the waiting list.
Can someone please tell me when orientation is again? I know it's been posted here but I can't find it. Since I have absolutely nothing left to take I am trying to find out my fall enrollment plans but classes start on Aug 20!! I don't want to register if I might get called AFTER that date because it would count against my drop limit. Hope this makes sense! Basically, I am hoping orientation is before August 20 :)
I signed up to allnurses.com because of the helpful comments that I have read while applying to nursing school. I also applied at UTA for the online BSN program for Fall 2012. When I began the pre-reqs for the program I lived in Arlington but moved to Houston.
I have been waitlisted. My grades are average, my HESI is very good, I have a previous degree, and I took 30 hours at UTA. I have been told that if you are waitlisted the odds are better to get in if you live in Dallas but I am still hopeful. I am also applying to several RN programs.
Is there anyone who has been waitlisted from Houston? I am sure if I keep trying I will get in somewhere but I would love to get in at UTA because the online classes helps out when you're a parent.
Now for some specific information that will especially interest the waitlisted applicants. While waiting in the lobby for my advising appointment this week, I met another waitlisted student. She will be finished with pharm and patho at the conclusion of this semester. I believe she only has taken Intro to Nursing and the two aforementioned classes at UTA. She has a 3.9 overall/4.0 science GPA and no considerations. Her cousin(a UTA student) was accepted to the traditional Fall 2012 program. Here's the rub - her cousin did not pass the HESI and her GPA was lower. The young lady I met was rejected and then later waitlisted due to a mistake on the part of UTA Nursing. She personally visited the office because she was told that she failed/did not take the HESI(one of the two), but she actually passed it. After some investigation, she was told by her advisor that her application was confused with another student possessing the same name. Wow!
Here's the info regarding the importance of considerations this application round provided to me by my advisor. She told me this was one of the most brutally competitive GPA application periods. Apparently, there were so many 4.0 GPA's, they were befuddled in trying to make their decisions. The considerations were very important this round, as they wanted to use other criteria to evaluate what would deem a candidate to be successful in their program. She said that considerations were more imporant this round than any of the previous ones. She encouraged to me to not lose hope, as the automatic application roll-over could present a likely opportunity of acceptance if I was not called off the waitlist due to less applicants.
Thanks for the infor, anya2222! Just curious if you are partnered?
Thanks!

@Shenfield37 - If you are currently living in Houston, how would you complete clinicals if you are accepted to UTA? I assume that you are not partnered? Just curious:) Good luck to you!
They have a clinical site in Houston and in San Antonio. After I got waitlisted I asked my advisor what I could do to increase my chances and she sent me a list of partnered hospitals. In Houston the partnered hospitals are different for the fall and spring but there are 2 hospitals per semester.

I see... No shock but sad. My chance to be called has just become slimmer :"(
