UTA FALL 2012

Published

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

Wow! Thank you so much for everyone's responses! I'm trying to understand all of this! On our letters we received with the email, I noticed that some hospitals are grouped together (like JPS/Cook Childrens or Parkland/Dallas Childrens), does this mean that if you are partnered with one of these hospitals you are "competing" with applicants from both? Like will they take 10 overall from Parkland/Dallas Childrens or is it 5 from one and 5 from the other?

I think to get the best answers you should attend the information session.

If hospitals are grouped together into one group, I guess waitlisted applicants within that group have to compete with each others. It makes sense but I only guess.

This question is completely off topic, I'm sorry I dont know where else to ask.I'm trying to get an interpreter job at JPS since I don't have any medical background I thought this will at least give me some experience and if all fails they have an RN program too.I turned in my application online last week and they haven't called back. And its impossible to speak to a human when I call. So can I go straight to the human resources office?

Hi everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing! It's hard to imagine that we are one weekend away from finishing our first clinical rotation and 4 weeks away from finishing our first semester! I am happy to say we have completed one course, Health Promotions! I'm glad to see everyone is still chatting and encouraging each other...you can do this! It truly is a lot of fun and an amazing journey. I think the best thing so far are the folks I am with in my cohort, we are like a huge family and we encourage each other and help each other everyday. So, when you get accepted, know that you will have others in the program with you that you can encourage and help and they will do the same for you.If anyone has any new questions or anything I can try and help answer, please let me know. I know when I was going through the process and orientation and even getting started I had a ton of questions. None are too silly or redundant...so ask away!
bjbailey, can you tell us how your first semester is going? Are clinicals on weekends or during the week? Thanks.

Will they tell us before fall classes start?

I agree I wish they would only use the considerations when the students have the same GPA...

Hi everyone! First off, congratulations to all the students who received acceptance into the Fall 2012 program. You guys truly deserve it. I wanted to ask the students that didn't get accepted to the fall program, what are y'alls backup plan. Have you applied elsewhere like MSU or TCC?

I know this is random and a completely different path than nursing, but I am getting older and I am ready to begin my second career. I already have a bachelor's degree, therefore I plan to go to law school. I plan on getting a second degree while preparing for the LSAT. Honestly, I have always dreamt of pursuing either field, as my ultimate goal is to help others. I feel this can be accomplished via nursing or practicing law as a civil rights attorney.

Ok so a few questions!

Does anyone actually know how the waitlist works? It seems like there are a lot of people on the wait list and surely they can't expect all of us to have a shot at getting called. It also seems to me (and I may be completely wrong!) that pretty much everyone who was partnered and not accepted was put on the waitlist. Does the wait list depend on where we are partnered? Meaning if someone who works at Baylor for example doesn't accept, does the next person in line from Baylor (on the waitlist) get the spot or would it go to the next person on the waitlist regardless of where or if they are partnered?

Do yall have any idea how many people are on the waitlist? Or about how many get called each semester?

Also, when is orientation? I'm only asking since they said after orientation we won't be called off the waitlist.

My advisor today told me that she has not been told a "set date on when wait list offers will go out or end". Are some people waitlisted because they haven't completed their pre-recs?

Sorry for ALLLLLL of the questions! Just some thoughts! :)

Hope you are all having a great day!

August 3rd is the orientation date for the on-campus program. Immunizations and background checks must be completed by then. If one has a DWI/DUI that has not been cleared from their record, they will be disqualified from entering. Also, I have a question pertaining to someone I know who has been accepted into the program. If one fails a non-science prerequisite class during the spring 2012 semester, will they be forced to retake it this summer prior to matriculation in the fall?

Thanks for your info. Have they given u the form or list of the shots?

As for public universities offering BSNs, don't forget about TWU Dallas campus and also the Denton campus.

The TWU weekend program is a great alternative to UTA. They also don't over promote the program like UTA does.

Does anyone know if we will know for sure before fall classes start?? I plan to retake a B science to make and A and maybe redo Stats for an A also in the fall...I would ahte to start the classes only to have to drop because I am called to start the program. I would do it gadly but I hate to use my drops for something like that when I might need them in a real emergency situation!

If you drop class before it starts, uta will not count agaisnt your drops number.
