UTA FALL 2012

Published

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

Yeah it seems most colleges favor their own first because I applied to 5 schools just in case and only accepted to the one I've taken the vast majority of my courses at which was my first choice :). I was waitlisted for Texas Tech. I was accepted into the UTA on-campus program. It was my first time to apply. I've taken all but 15 hours of my pre-reqs at UTA and started there as a freshman. I had a 4.0 science and like a 3.8 overall. I am so excited to meet everyone starting this fall! :)

It does seem like UTA favors students who have been there longer or who started as freshmen... I attended a seminar one of the organizations hosted last semester and some of the advisors and people that were there said that students who started at UTA are more competitive than a transfer student.. A student asked them what if a transfer student had a higher GPA than a UTA student and they said most likely the UTA student would get in because they get additional consideration for completing the pre-reqs there. Good luck to all of you!

UTA favors students who have been there and I agree with the science side because seriously some of the people who I have been friends with took A&P either online or at certain jr colleges and they are struggling in patho which is not supposed to be hard if you pay attn in A&P. The science pre-reqs at UTA are geared towards the nursing program and they teach you what you will need to know. Having a prior bachelors degree shows that you had the commitment to stick out another program. Honors college speaks for itself and the only one that people could argue is the 30+ hours. I'm going to stop following I guess because I feel like people are just complaining. I had a 4.0 & 3.78 with 3 considerations. I deserved to get in and I did so I'm sorry if people don't like the way UTA does things apply somewhere else.

Foxy12, I don't think people are saying you didn't deserve to get in. I think they are shocked, frustrated and disappointed for themselves. It is a very confusing application process. When I first applied to the pre nursing program the advisor told me I should be able to get in to the online program with a 3.0 science gpa and no partnership. I think they never dreamed they would have so many applicants.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

That was unnecessary, Foxy. No need to put others down because they think they deserved to get in. I have a 4.0/3.86, so I think I deserve to be in over you. It shouldn't matter where I took some of my classes because my GPA is higher. Now I don't say this to be condescending or anything, but you brought this topic up so you're going to hear my two cents. The considerations should ONLY be for people with identical GPA, when the college of nursing is deciding on who to admit at the end of their list.

The considerations should ONLY be for people with identical GPA, when the college of nursing is deciding on who to admit at the end of their list.

This is what I originally thought about how they use the considerations. But that's their rule... I hope they can come up with some clearer ranking method in the future.

There is a lot of emotion running around on this board because we all want this so badly. I know some of this group got in, most of us didn't.

I didn't get in and I'm disappointed. I have a lot riding on this and I've worked hard, the same story many of us share.

I'll admit, Friday evenng was hard, I shed more than a few tears. I realize though that anything worth having is a challenge and now I have to figure out how to overcome this road block. Now it's time to focus on next steps for those of us who didn't get in.

If we want to reapply at UTA then we need to get in to an advising session. If the school's application process has soured our opinion of the school then let's put that energy into finding a new path.

We are all deserving here, there's a reason for everything though. Time to figure out the reason and move forward. If our criticism would change UTA's application process then maybe it would be worth discussion but, bottom line, it won't.

Congrats to everyone who made it, you worked hard. For those of us who didn't let's direct our energy to making our new path, and making our goals happen. Good luck to us all. We can do this!

Well at the end of the day the people who are qualified are the ones who make the decision - and I did not bring it up. All of the people who are complaining brought it up. GPA is only part of it because who says that if you took your sciences at another college that you will have learned what UTA deems necessary for success. What we think doesn't matter anymore so people need to drop it - obviously the results are what they are and no one complaining about other people is going to do anything but irritate the ones who got in. I didn't put anyone down - I stated the facts and that is that.

Let's start a new conversation!!! Everyone has different opinions about what is fair but we all want the same success at the end of the day! We will all get there! So, moving on, for those of us waitlisted or denied please start posting on the Spring 2013board! The one for Spring '12 was SO informative and supportive and we all need that :) Hell, I should probably go ahead and start a Spring 2015 board at this rate lol!

lets not forget what this forum is for.

it is for people to come for support in the subject of nursing. not even 2 days ago we were all on here talking about the anticipation we all felt because we were all waiting on the fate of our dreams. some of us will go on to hopefully make that dream come true. the rest of us will be waiting in limbo or possibly changing our dream all together. getting in provides a sense of relief. being turned down or even wait listed brings different feelings that those of you that got in will not understand. have you ever been dumped??? do you remember when you and your best friend sat around and talk about how him/her was a jerk and didn't deserve you or whatever negative things you had to say...well this is the same crap.

those of us that didn't get in are still here for support. nobody understood that pressure of getting into nursing school but the ones that are where going through it which is why each and every one of us sought out this forum and have spent the past months posting or reading this forum. to feel normal and be reassured by the ones that are going through the same exact things as us. so with that said not everyone got in. and this forum is still here for the support of both of those groups.

do you know how it feels to be told you are not good enough to pursue your dream or better yet that you might be good enough but at this point they still are not sure if you are….? no!! so let people feel the way they feel. if they want to rant and rave so be it! you got in so why don’t you start studying! that’s what i would be doing if i was in! instead i am wait listed and waiting around....

Let me know the link to the board you start NIkki. I will probably still be around then too!

Well said MEGREEN!
