UTA FALL 2012

Published

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

I completely agree that you need to plan to get the BSN. I have heard the same thing about BSN's being more and more of a necessity. Just view the ADN as a stepping stone to that, not the final stop. I just don't want anyone who's already upset feeling negatively about the ADN route. Oh, and also make sure that the school where you get your ADN, if you choose that route, has a high pass rate on the NCLEX.

Thanks you guys for these positive posts! Wish I could be classmate with u all! Things happen for a reason. Dont give up!

I am sorry if I came acorss as being negative about the ADN route. I had orignally planned to do an ADN before finding out about the UTA program. Like Nikki said it's getting very hard to find a job with an ADN. I also have all the prereqs done for a BSN already. Which is atleast an additonal year of school. Thats why I said a waste of my time. If the ADN route is something you would like to pursue now that is great!:D I am going to try again at UTA and then maybe I will try an ADN program. I just hate to think I worked so hard on BSN prereqs and spent all the extra time....

Congarts to everyone who has recieved acceptance I hope myself and others from ere that have been waitlisted will get to join you guys in the fall!

I am also waitlisted for the Fall 2012. I have a 4.0 GPA for my sciences and a 3.82 overall. I don't have any of the considerations. This is my second semester at UTA and I thought I would be accepted based on my GPA so I am super bummed about being waitlisted. I was also accepted to TCU but UTA is my first choice. I just hope they call soon! I am trying to meet with my advisor ASAP to see if she can give me any advice. At this point I am stressed out to the max...

Sorry Marie :( Did you apply to traditional or AP?

I can't believe all of these high GPA that are being waitlisted. This is by far the most competive year I have seen here on allnurses.

I apologize as weel. I don't mean to degrade the ADN program. I meant to encourage investigation. I feel like there is a lot of smoke screens in the post secondary education world. Its still business. The ADN program sounds like a good program until you graduate and get out into the job market and find that entry level rn jobs are hard to come by and there are a lot of people more qualified than you. My friend is trying to get an internship right now as a RN with her BSN and she told me there are about 500 applicants for 1 position. No one will look down on someone who got their ADN before their bacchelors but there is an perception created by schools like Dcccd and uta that you can work with your ADN while you get your BSN online. This just isn't as realistic as they make it seem. Wes, there is a nursing shortage still...but it's not nationwide (really only Texas and Mississippi) and its a shortage of experienced RNs. Be well informed. While the ADN program is a viable stepping stone it's not wise to step on the first stone you can get to. Do yourselves a favor and get a degree where you will be competitive in the job market. If you go the adn route be aware of the challenges you will face. If you think getting in to nursing school is the hardest hurdle to jump over you would be wrong, at least in this a economy. Just be informed and be patient. Take the time to improve your application and get into the school that you want to go to. Set goals and you will achieve them with dedication. I didn't get it either so there is no soapbox for me to stand on.

I applied for the traditional. I guess I should have given myself more options by also applying to the online choice.

Oh no look like my 4.0/3.7 is not competitive enough for the traditional. Seem like my chance to get called is so small :((

Hey Marie, I am in the same boat as you. I have a 4.0 sciences and 3.86 overall. My second semester here with no considerations. I thought for sure my gpa would be enough!

ATTENTION GUEST READERS!!!!

If you got in partnered with THR will you please say soa nd give stats if you are comfortable with that. I have not heard from another THR person except Nikki and we are both waitlisted. I think we are both secertly hoping there has been a mistake! :p

I find it completely ludicrous that people applied with 4.0 and were not accepted because they did not have any considerations!! What is really going on? Don't get me wrong, the people who have gotten in deserve and GOD has blessed them...BUT if you have a 3.0 Science GPA but have 3 considerations I do not believe that person should be accepeted over a 4.0 Science GPA student with no considerations! Just MY opinion! I don't know what UTA is doing! They need to start telling people upfront..."Look, we have 100 slots...75 will go to our students and the rest will go to other" ... For those of you who got accepted, CONGRATS!!! And for those who did not get accepted...DO NOT GIVE UP!!! APPLY EVERYWHERE!! Nothing happens before it's time!
