UTA AP BSN Remote Locations Fall 2012

I need some advice. I just got a call from the university of texas at arlington. she invited me to their ap bsn program and told me that i could go to the san antonio or longview clinical sites. i live in dallas. the ap bsn program is an online 15-month program that is competitive to get into. it's accelerated because it goes through the summer. the lectures are online and clinicals are 2-long consecutive days a week. the program starts the beginning of september. i'd graduate with my bsn in dec 2013. I am currently on the waiting list for uta's traditional program but seeing as i don't have a plan b nor do i have children, i am going to jump on it. Now i have to make the decision of which one. do i move to san antonio or commute (2 hours) to longview? I don't know much about the san antonio (5 hours away from home) clinical site other than that it is hca methodist. i am thinking it is the one that uthscsa rotates at but i'm not sure because there are multiple locations. i have not found anyone that has done the san antonio program. additionally, i don't know anyone in san antonio and it would cost more to relocate with living expenses. Longview is at good shepard and it has a new innovative learning site that they recently built with high-fidelity mannicans from a $800,000 grant. good shepard is a level 2 trauma center. i am worried about the commute and how rotating at a rural hospital will look on my resume later on. i would prefer to work in a urban setting. there has been a carpool group in past semesters. I have until monday to decide. what would you do???

    UTA FALL 2012

I apologize as weel. I don't mean to degrade the ADN program. I meant to encourage investigation. I feel like there is a lot of smoke screens in the post secondary education world. Its still business. The ADN program sounds like a good program until you graduate and get out into the job market and find that entry level rn jobs are hard to come by and there are a lot of people more qualified than you. My friend is trying to get an internship right now as a RN with her BSN and she told me there are about 500 applicants for 1 position. No one will look down on someone who got their ADN before their bacchelors but there is an perception created by schools like Dcccd and uta that you can work with your ADN while you get your BSN online. This just isn't as realistic as they make it seem. Wes, there is a nursing shortage still...but it's not nationwide (really only Texas and Mississippi) and its a shortage of experienced RNs. Be well informed. While the ADN program is a viable stepping stone it's not wise to step on the first stone you can get to. Do yourselves a favor and get a degree where you will be competitive in the job market. If you go the adn route be aware of the challenges you will face. If you think getting in to nursing school is the hardest hurdle to jump over you would be wrong, at least in this a economy. Just be informed and be patient. Take the time to improve your application and get into the school that you want to go to. Set goals and you will achieve them with dedication. I didn't get it either so there is no soapbox for me to stand on.

    UTA FALL 2012

I called this afternoon and got through. The woman said that Clara, the head of the advisors, told her to tell applicants the emails will be sent out end of april/beginning of may. Sounds like an automated response to me but may not be today. I was soo excited too.

Nothing yet but nikkib is prob right. They most likely won't send out the email until after office hours. The IT department might have a better idea of when they are sending out the emails and might actually answer.
