Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...
Post away!
Just an FYI about retaking classes if you are wanting to raise your GPA for the Spring 2013 application:
"any grades after June 1, 2012 are not in the ranking GPA." This came from my advisor when I asked about retaking classes.
Hope you are all doing great! And good luck to all of us in waiting!
Also, Codi, remember that redoing a stats class has nothing to do with your science GPA so I wouldn't waste the money on it. Unless they have hanged their criteria suddenly, then it still stands that all they look at is the GPA of the 4 sciences. Of course, if you weren't partnered then your overall GPA might serve as a tiebreaker but, generally, it won't matter. Double-check with Angela but my info states that they only care about A&P 1, 2, Micro, and Chem in regards to acceptance into the program.

Disappointed that they told you that...I was hoping to raise my science GPA by retaking Chem and A&P I for A's! I also asked my advisor about retaking, and haven't heard back yet - we'll see if they say the same thing (hoping they are consistent).
On the wait list, I sit.....
Hi All! I am joining a little late....but wanted to share that I received an email on Friday that I was wait listed for the UTA AP BSN program. I am partnered at Parkland, so I was really hopeful that would be an advantage. I wanted to know if anyone else is partnered at Parkland and got put on the wait list? If so, are you still working on completing classes?I have a BS in Health Information Management, but since I didn't go to school in TX - many of my pre-reqs weren't accepted. I had 15 total to take and I am in the process of taking 3 classes that end on May 8th, and then I still need Patho and Pharm, along with an Amer. Lit. class - all of these will be completed by August.
I wonder if they couldn't make a determination because I have so many outstanding classes still??
Congrats to all those who were accepted! I am curious about those who weren't, or were wait listed and are currently partnered.
Hello, I too work at Parkland and is waitlisted also. I wonder how many was accepted and how long the wait list is. Do you know anyone that was accepted for the Fall? I work in Lab Central, where Dept do you work in?

Hi! I work in Health Information Management (HIM). I think you may have sent me an email? I will give you a call today
I went to my advising appoint this week at UTA. My advisor never mentioned anything regarding immunizations or background check forms. My understanding is that they will require those steps to be completed once you are officially accepted. If anyone who has been accepted can clarify, that would be wonderful. For those of you that have received an acceptance email, is there any info regarding shots/background checks contained within the letter?
Now for some specific information that will especially interest the waitlisted applicants. While waiting in the lobby for my advising appointment this week, I met another waitlisted student. She will be finished with pharm and patho at the conclusion of this semester. I believe she only has taken Intro to Nursing and the two aforementioned classes at UTA. She has a 3.9 overall/4.0 science GPA and no considerations. Her cousin(a UTA student) was accepted to the traditional Fall 2012 program. Here's the rub - her cousin did not pass the HESI and her GPA was lower.
The young lady I met was rejected and then later waitlisted due to a mistake on the part of UTA Nursing. She personally visited the office because she was told that she failed/did not take the HESI(one of the two), but she actually passed it. After some investigation, she was told by her advisor that her application was confused with another student possessing the same name. Wow!
Here's the info regarding the importance of considerations this application round provided to me by my advisor. She told me this was one of the most brutally competitive GPA application periods. Apparently, there were so many 4.0 GPA's, they were befuddled in trying to make their decisions. The considerations were very important this round, as they wanted to use other criteria to evaluate what would deem a candidate to be successful in their program. She said that considerations were more imporant this round than any of the previous ones. She encouraged to me to not lose hope, as the automatic application roll-over could present a likely opportunity of acceptance if I was not called off the waitlist due to less applicants.
Anya, that is correct. You don't need to do anything regarding shots or background stuff until you have been officially accepted. I am still waitlisted, but I know the answer because I asked it last year :)
Thanks Nikki. It's nice to receive information that's directly provided by the "horse's mouth", so the speak.

I know but what I'd they call you in like the week before nursing classes start.... That's not until September and fall classes start in August... I am an over thinker!
