UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

They are accepting NET scores from the Sep 12th test date so there is no way they will even recieve those scores until the following week....from there they have to review and decide who gets an interview. I am betting no interviews will take place until October.

Yeah, interviews are mid sept until the end of oct. Im sure they are already looking at all the applications that are fully completed by now or else they could never start interviewing by mid sept. Especially if they normally get 1000+ applicants for each semester. They are going to want to give each applicant a fair analysis and starting to look at ALL the applications after Sept 1 would not allow that. Best wishes.

I'm pretty sure I posted something about this back on like, page 11, but we were told in the information session that I went to that they will not review ANY applicants until after the September 1st deadline. At that time they would begin sending out interview letters, approximately mid-September. Interviews would continue through September and October and ALL acceptance letters are mailed on Novermber 15th. That is, they do not mail acceptance letters after your interview, instead they mail them after they have interviewed everyone.

Many applicants (close to half, according to what we were told) are eliminated immediately because their applications are incomplete, as in they do not have transcripts, scores etc. The remaining 500 to 600 are sifted through and eliminated based on GPA or test scores. The remaining of those (probably in the neighborhood of 350 applicants) are interviewed, and the best ~100 are taken. Although I have heard they are only taking 80 for the spring semester, but we were told about 100 in the information session.

sorry this has me a little confused, will interview letters be sent out through the end of October? or they will conduct interviews through the end of October?

Both. Probably they will conduct interviews all the way through the first week in November actually.

yes but lets not forget about the waitlisted people who have already interviewed and been accepted for the Spring 2010...as well as people who had their applications completed a long time ago. If you go look back at that thread they have been accepted already....I wonder how many of our slots they filled? UT stated that they wait until Sep 1st to review applications but I know for a fact that is untrue because these people have been accepted. How that is fair is beyond me but I am not making this stuff up

Sorry if I sounded snappy....this whole thing just ****** me off. I dont know how they can accept people when the application deadline isnt even here yet? Even if they were wait listed that doesnt mean that the pool they were in competition with for the Fall 09 is of the same level this pool is in. They are seperate batches of people with different GPA's and NET scores...so how they justify that is beyond me. I know its SUPER competitve and thats why something trivial like this would bother me but I view it as those people taking a potential slot that could be mine ya know? I just wish UT wouldve been honest about that instead of saying "we dont review any apps until the deadline" when in fact they do. OK I am venting I know so I will stop because it doesnt change anything.

Emag, I agree. I'm certainly not upset at those people who were accepted already (it's not like I'd expect them to turn it down), but it sure did just grind my hopes into the floor. I was counting on a fair shot against THIS semester's applicant pool, with everyone being looked at at the same time. If they're already accepting people from last semester's wait list, it seems to me that that means we're applying and hopefully interviewing just for waitlist positions for next semester. Well, next semester I can't go. This semester entrance is my one real shot to get to go. I don't have the option of going the ADN route, because as a post-bacc student, I cannot get ANY financial aid or student loans for an associate's program. So, if UT or UTMB decides that they don't have enough room because they accepted all the waitlisted students first, then I'm SOL.

for anyone that doesn't know this, but ERI is having a make up test on Saturday August 29@8AM for the NET test. They had a fire alarm incident so they are trying to fill up spot. And the guy told me that UT Houston is accepting scores up to Sept 15. Its at a HCC location.

Emag -

I agree about the waitlisted people. It is very frustrating. But UT did tell me that new applicants will not be reviewed until after the application deadline. So maybe they did not fill up too many slots with the waitlisted folks.

Toaster -

What about TWU? If UT doesn't work out, that is. I plan to apply there in the spring if I don't get into UT.

I may try there. I know they've got a great program. Plus, I'm from Denton, so they seem like a hometown school, even if they're in Houston. I really, really, really want to go for Spring though, as I think my job will be disappearing this winter anyhow and my lease is up in December. Plus, I'm tired of stressing about it :-P.

I have a question for you guys - Does UT Houston's "Overall GPA" requirement really mean overall (as in all the classes you took for undergrad), or does it mean overall the pre reqs? I'm kind of confused about that! Thanks for your help!
