Anyone here applied already?
Have you taken the NET exam?
Thanks kimmy088! I'll definitely starting thinking about laptops, based on your information. :)
I know a way to open a .docx without that version of Microsoft Office. I have Office 2003 and was able to open the email from UTH about pre-enrollment requirements this way:
If you have a gmail account, forward the .docx attachment to your gmail account. When you open the email in gmail, click the button under the attachment that says Open as a google document. The .docx will open in the Google Docs program and you can read through it. To save it to your computer, or use other programs like Word, click in the Google Docs program (not your browser) File --> Download As --> (then you can choose to open in in Word, which is a .doc, or you can choose other options, like .pdf)
I think there's also a free plugin you can get for older versions of Office that will allow you to read .docx files, too.

Ah that sounds good! Just make sure that you can open powerpoint .pptx files also! :)
Hi Everyone, I can't believe I JUST found this forum. I could've used some people to obsess with (people who were in the same boat).
I got in!!! I'm in the Traditional program for Fall 10. I'm glad I read through this thread... my husband got me a MacBookPro for Xmas (to use in Nursing school) and I thought I had to tell him I needed something else. I'm glad I can use it.
I live in League City, and I would love to carpool sometimes. I can't wait to meet you all.
LOL yeah :) That's cool! I'll set something up through the Facebook group and see if anyone is interested and I'll post it here too. I asked the FB group but is anyone interested in getting together to do the COR requirements as a group? I remember reading someone else's post that a few people in her class did it as a group and they had a great time so I think this would be another good idea to get together if anyone is interestedAlso, for people looking for places to live, you might wanna check the surrouding areas in the medical center that are close to the Metro Rail. Some apartments are walking distance from the LightRail and you can always ride that into the medical center and just walk to the buildings. There's also apartments and a few townhomes off Holly Hall which is a street or two after El Paseo where UT Housing is and that's also really closeby. I have a few friends who live there and they just walk to the bus stop.
Hope that helps!
This info helps me out... my husband and are are hoping to move closer to the medical center. I currently work there, but commute from NASA area... and I'm so excited to be done with driving a long commute! :)
I haven't joined the FB group yet... so definitely keep me in the loop about meeting up in Rice Village the night before orientation. They have some great places there. Two Rows is yummy and they brew their own beer!
Excited to meet you guys and start school!!! :hpygrp:
I am close to NASA too. (Clear Lake) This may sound dumb, but how do I find the group on Facebook? I've been resisting setting up a Facebook account for a long time, but I guess I should if my new nursing classmates are on it!
Once you set up an account on Facebook, just look up the group "UT Houston School of Nursing Fall 2010" and the group should pop up and you can join it :)

Yes, most if not all of the lectures are powerpoint and most of the lectures are available to download off of blackboard. The only class that doesn't provide power points is patho because that is just how the prof likes to lecture. She doesn't post slides and doesn't record her lectures, so you HAVE to go.
If you do have a mac (or a PC), make sure you've bought the microsoft office 2008 version (once you're registered as a student I think the uth bookstore will sell the software to you for $40; don't quote me on that price though) in order to open .docx documents. Some of the professors post things in .doc and some post in .docx and it's just a hassle to try to get someone to send you a .doc file everytime you can't open a .docx.
