UT Houston Fall 2010 (University of Texas at Houston)

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

Well sorry to say but I know I will not get an interview. I failed the NET test. :crying2: Good Luck to everyone else!!

Hello everyone! I will also be applying for the Fall 2010 (maybe even the summer). I made B's in both Chem and Micro. Should I retake either one? If so which would be more important to have an A in? I am so worried and nervous. I have not yet taken the NET. I really want to get into UT. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sorry Michelle :( At least they're changing to the HESI, which is supposedly easier. Are you going to apply for the Spring?

Peach, were you looking at UT Houston? The deadline for fall semester applications has passed. Your GPA is broken down into science, prereqs and overall, so science grades are pretty important, though I really can't say if it's necessary to retake your classes. From what I've heard, we were the last class to take the NET and everyone will need the HESI in the future, so I'd suggest looking into that and seeing if it's true. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response. I actually meant the Spring. Sorry. I've been so crazy lately. I will have a 3.57 Science GPA if I do not retake the classes.

I'm not sure at this point if I want to apply again with UT. I hear a lot of mixed reviews about the HESI, some say it's easier and some say it's harder. I know the proctor for the NET said the HESI is much longer than the NET. She also mentioned how competitive it is right now due to the economy. There was 86 people taking the test with me and 90 people prior. It's very discouraging.

I have to take the HESI for HCC and Lonestar, so I can let you know if it's terrible or not :) I know it's computerized, so once you're done with a section you can move on to the next. I'm guessing that for most people, it won't take as long because they won't have to wait (the last 3 parts of the NET were about to make me lose my mind!).

Good luck with whatever you decide!!

The HESI, in my opinion, was a lot easier and better. :)

I took it for TWU.

- You have a total time, you are not timed individually for each section, so you can pick any section, do it, pick another section, do it, etc. (Mine was a total of 4 hours and I didn't even use all of it, but with the NET I ran out of time on the Reading!)

- After you complete a section your score is immediately listed next to that section, and when you complete the whole test you can view your cumulative score.

- Even though it might be a little longer, the science is split up into three sections (Chemistry, A&P, and Biology), which I think is helpful because it gives you the opportunity to do a little worse on one section and better on the others and it just averages out, whereas the NET it's all together. Basically the HESI is more questions so you can get more wrong without suffering.

- I felt like the Reading, Grammar, and Vocabulary sections were actually much easier than anything on the NET test.

- Within a day or two after the test, Elsevier (they make the HESI) emails you telling you that you can register on their site to see your scores (in case you forgot them or didn't look at your cumulative when you took it, I suppose). They also provide short evaluations/responses to your tests. It tells you whether your score is actually good or not, and some tests (not all), tell you how you can improve your score if you're going to take it again. They also list what types of questions you got wrong (the NET did this too, kind of, with the "breakdown score" under each section). Also, the website compares you to other people who have taken the HESI (though I think it only compares you to people who take it in the same month as you) and tells you what percentile you fall in, etc.

All in all, I'm comforted in that if I don't get in to UTHSC for Fall 2010, that the next admissions test is an easier/better one.

A quick question, a little OT... I know that the HCC program is an ADN program, is Lonestar as well?

I never considered applying to those programs but lately I've become paranoid/discouraged about getting into the schools I applied to. Could you tell me how the application process is? You can PM me if you like, so people on here don't have to read us talking about other schools.

Lonestar is also an ADN program. I'm not sure how much longer I'll have my job (layoffs are looming), so I need to get in somewhere this fall.

Neither school has an interview; it's just based on gpa, HESI score, etc. HCC requires you to attend an information session, which is good for a year. With HCC, you submit an application and they invite so many students to pharmacology the semester before you start nursing school. If you pass, you go to nursing school.

The HCC website doesn't seem to like me today--go to the Coleman page, and look for a listing of programs to get more nursing info.

Here's the Lonestar page: http://lonestar.edu/nursing-requirements.htm#basic_track

And now back to UT talk :)

wannabetxnurse- Please let me know how the HESI test goes! I applied to UTMB, Lee College and COM. I really wanted to get into a BSN program so I wouldn't feel like the last two years have been a waste. Considering how difficult it is to get into a BSN, I have applied to ADN programs. I just want someone to accept me!!!!:D lol
