UT Houston Fall 2010 (University of Texas at Houston)

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

I'd try calling the admissions office, or the company that makes the NET (ESI? maybe?).

Does anyone know when they'll start sending out interview letters? I'm ready for the semester to start so I am too busy to think and worry about this!

I think I remember reading on their website that they'll send out letters 4-6 weeks after the application deadline.

I found it!!! lol after I posted I called my dad and asked if he'd seen it and he was all, "anything that looked important I shoved in my desk" so of course that's why I thought I lost it because he grabbed it and put it with his stuff!

I have a question... I only recently found this site and I was going through the Spring 2010 thread and there was some people who took it the day I did (I took it really early)... The day I took it the fire alarm went off for about 20 minutes during the Reading Comprehension portion and the proctors didn't stop the test but no one could concentrate and when the fire alarm finally stopped sounding the proctors were all, "Five minutes left" or whatever and everyone started getting really mad saying that they should give us more time or that they should've stopped it once the alarm went off. But the ladies just told us to call ERI and tell them what happened. They didn't say that ERI would let us retake it or not. So I just never called.

But on the Spring 2010 thread a person on there took it the day I did and actually called and it says that ERI let them retake it.

Do you think if I call they would still let me retake it? Or is it far too late? Would I still make the deadline for Fall 2010 semester anyway?

Hmmm.. I think that it would be too late to retake it. The deadline is in 4 days and there is no NET test offered in that time and even if there was it wouldn't get to UT by the 15th. That's horrible that that happened to you guys. When my sister and a friend of mine were taking it, a couple of months ago, they were telling me some really annoying and distracting things that those ladies were doing when they were trying so hard to focus on the reading comprehension part. Sorry for the bad luck but just know as long as you get above a 70 and have competetive GPA's you'll get an interview. Best of luck!

I called. The first lady I talked to was really nice and wanted to help me but then she transferred me to a really rude woman who barely even let me talk she just kept telling me that I should've called in August. And then when I finally gave up she was all nice "Okay have a nice day!" Grrrrr.

Yes, even if there had been no fire alarm the ladies at the testing center were whispering to each other talking. I get that they're probably bored while we're testing but it was distracting. And then they would totally freak out if we had our answer sheet on top of our test booklet because "the pencil will go through to the test booklet". Honestly, the tables were that bumpy kind and made my bubbles all weird so I had to put the test booklet underneath! And it just made me feel like they kept watching me. It wasn't a good test environment at all. I suppose if I don't get into this program or any of the other two I applied to, I'll retake it and try for Spring 2011. My math score was still good and I still got above a 70 on the Reading Comprehension but I know I could've done better if it hadn't been for that alarm.

Did anyone get a packet for the purpose of verifying your prerequisites?

What are your Elective Classes UTH for sure will accept?

Anyone taking their prereq. at U of H?

FYI everyone,

I just got off the phone with someone at the UT Houston BNA department and she said that this fall was the last time they are requiring the NET test and that they are switching to the HESI entrance exam starting Spring 11. I just missed the window of opportunity to take the NET exam to get into this fall. That is way ahead of the fall semester???

I don't really understand what you're asking. The deadline is so early because it actually takes them awhile to choose people to interview, do the interviews, then decide who to accept. And then people generally need time to prepare for the classes (some might need to move, find means of transportation, take out student loans, etc.)

If it's true that UT Houston is switching to the HESI, then that's actually good for future applicants. A lot of people think the HESI is a lot easier than the NET.

I just took the NET on 1/9/10. I am afraid my scores will not reach UT in time for the 1/15 deadline. The ladies assured me the schools get the results first before they are mailed out to the student. Just curious how long it takes to get the results, hopefully they will reach UT in time.

Check your UT link throughout the week. I think UT got my scores on the Tuesday after I took the exam. I don't think you will have any problems.

For those who took the NET on Jan 9 yes your results will get there in time for the deadline...

There is also this company called Pearson Vue which is who I took the NET through, it is computerized and you get your results immediately but instead of paying $40 you pay $100, the exam will still be through ERI but you take it at a Pearson Vue facility...Hope this helps

Great, thank you everyone for your responses! Now I just have to worry about getting an interview! :uhoh3:
