Anyone here applied already?
Have you taken the NET exam?
Some of you have been accepted to TWU, and I remembered that there was a really good post in our old thread about TWU's vs UT's program and here it is:
To Ali523:Hey girl I got ur message but unfortunately I can't reply to it since I haven't had a certain number of posts or something...so hopefully this post finds you (and benefits the others reading as well)!
I also got accepted to both UT and TWU when I was applying and what you should do is ACCEPT TWU and if you get accepted to UT later on (and you want to go there) then just call TWU and decline their offer. MANY of us did...I actually remember calling their school and the lady actually saying "Let me guess...you're going to UT, huh? MMMhmmm...." haha...
As far as the schools go, both really are great...you'll get to do clinicals in pretty much the same top notch hospitals: MDA, St. Luke's, TCH, Methodist, Memorial Hermann, etc as well as outlying hospitals (if you live closer to them). It really all boils down to your clinical experience...a BSN is a BSN everywhere but the connections you make and the experience you gain from clinicals is what it all boils down to in the end. I'm not sure how TWU does their curriculum, but at UT you do your last semester at a "high acuity" area of YOUR choice. You get to choose your top 3 and get a preceptor for that whole semester (12 days or nights I think). If you really like your area, then it could potentially mean a job for you if you really impress them...this is what helped me out the most and I was very thankful to UT for that opportunity. I sincerely don't think I could have gotten a job @ TCH without it...it's a very hard hospital to get into as a new grad esp in the NICU.
UT does have a new curriculum that took effect Fall of '08 and from what I've heard it was a disaster (many people failed the first semester)...the reason it's gotten so hard is because they changed it from a 5 to 4 semester program (increased workload) and they've now started to accept in the spring as well.
I was accepted in the Fall '07 class so I really can't give yall an accurate experience of how it is nowadays. It was definitely the toughest 5 semesters of my life though and I can't even fathom bunching it to 4 semesters...that's what the accelerated BSN course was! Plus, our patho and pharm professors were amazing but they stopped teaching after our class...I haven't heard great things about the new professors unfortunately. Honestly, I never really even went to class half the time but I had an AMAZING study group and that definitely helped me...the support system you'll get from other students can help you soooo much because let's face it you may have supportive significant others/family members but they totally don't know what you're going through!! Many students had nervous breakdowns...gotta be honest with yall.
As far as jobs, our class was unfortunately the class who graduated during the heart of the recession. Normally everyone starts to apply for jobs February but as you all know there was a huge hiring freeze in the med center. Very few got jobs and we were all VERY freaked out (2 years of nursing school for NOTHING?? Isn't this suppose to be the most stable job!?). BUT at around May-June the whole thing "unfroze" and we all got jobs...quite a few hospitals were actually lacking GN's (Hermann, MDA) so everyone got a scare in the beginning but it all was well in the end. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a job now.
Other things to think about if you want to go to UT is parking. If you're lucky enough to get into the UT housing then good for you (the free UT shuttle stops at the apartments)! For all the rest, try to park on El Paseo (next to UT housing) and take the free shuttle to school it stops there too...gotta warn you though get there early b/c that street gets PACKED with all the students taking it (especially dental students...there are TONS of them!). You can always park in the brown lot or the MDA parking garage across the school but $$$ adds up obviously...just park there if you're late for a test or something lol
I know this shouldn't be a reason why you should choose UT as the school you should go to...but honestly the name alone can impress people (and potential employers). UT just has that reputation I guess...
Ok so I don't know much about TWU but I do work with someone that went there so I'll try to get the scoop and tell yall when I find out. I sincerely hope you all make it! This board helped me a LOT when I was applying so hopefully it'll help you too...=)

aggienurse2010, I called 713-500-2100 opt 5 recently and got a pretty quick response. Not sure if that is what you tried but thought I would send just in case it helps. They are probably screening calls due to a large volume of people trying to call and find out information just kidding. I called to find out what immunizations we have to show proof of but the lady that answered couldnt tell me. Does anyone else know which ones are required? Unfortunately, my childhood doctor destroyed all of my files after seven years of inactivity in their system. Looks like I will have to have a titer done or re do some shots.

I got started with my immunizations this month because I too lost my records due to hurricane Katrina. Here's the link to what shots are required http://registrar.uth.tmc.edu/Forms/immuform.pdf.
any news yet on updates?! if any of you hear from the school and your changed status on UT link let us know please! i've had probably 8 hours of sleep in the past 3 days because of all this stress and waiting to hear from schools. I applied to UTMB and UT Houston, yes UT Houston said they would let us know by/on April 1st, and UTMB applicants are already getting their acceptance letters from the 1st interview session.
Did you guys that got accepted to UTMB have the 1st interview session?
Do any of you know how many students applied to UT Houston for the BSN program for fall 2010? and how many will be accepted?
This anxiety is really starting to affect my health :/ lol
Good luck everyone!
I have not recieved any kind of update as of yet. As far as I know 1200 applied, 400 had interviews, and 130 will get in. 80 for the regular program and 50 for the pacesetters program. You also have to keep in mind those that applied for the accelerated program are also in the running for the generic. All this information, I have heard from others so not completely sure it's a 100% accurate. Still waiting.............
Yes, me too. Like I said this is all second hand but some of the people from the last interviews said after reviewing all the applications it was more like 400. I think originally it was only 250 or so but they were still reviewing the transcripts and applications submitted at the deadline.
