UT Houston (Fall 2014 applicants)

Published

Hello Future Nurses,

Wanted to know if anyone was preparing to take the Hesi a2, and or applying to UT Houston before the Jan. 15, 2014 deadline for Fall 2014???? I would like to form a study forum!!

Still waiting on it :)

I'm trying to understand which gpas are taken into consideration, as I have seen numerous individuals post three different ones?

From what I understand, and everything I have read on the website, the school looks at your nursing prereq GPA and science GPA. Some people are including their overall GPA in their stats as well. The website specifically states:

Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or better in the required 60 hours of nursing

prerequisites, and a minimum of 3.0 or better in the required science prerequisites.

It makes no reference to overall GPA.

I don't have a previous BA degree like so many of y'all but I remember it saying that you needn't one to apply so still not sure bout that.

Well, my transcript eval says I applied for the accelerated and it's 15 months compared to 16, so I'm concerned about the pace at which I will be expected to learn coupled with the lack of support. (I don't feel like uth really cares too much about their students) :/

I'm not sure why your eval says accelerated, but if you look at UTHealth's SON website the only BSN program available going forward is the Pacesetter which is 15months.

As for UTH not caring about their students, what would lead you to make such a bold statement? I have heard nothing but positive reviews of the staff from previous SON students.

Specializes in neonatal, oncology.

Yes, I've read the website as well, thank you. I was only asking to see if there was some information others knew that I did not. It's very easy to get information misconstrued, or miss it altogether, and I was making sure I had not done so.

I don't have any degrees! No worries.

It's just that I'm comparing them to UTMB. UTMB has been so helpful and so happy while doing it. If I have a question, even about something super minuscule, they will go above and beyond to answer it in a timely manner. UTH, not so much. I have not felt the love from them at all.:/ It's probably just me, but I feel that if I send them a question, they just send me a link to their website, as if to say "Duh, the answer is right there!" :| And I'm not special, I've read the website, I'm just double checking. ANYWAY, I just feel like my heart is at UTMB... And it took three months to get an email back from UTH.

I understand. I was trying to decide between the two for quite sometime. I did get a very friendly/relaxed vibe from the person who interviewed me at UTMB and truth be told, if it were closer I would have definitely chosen to go there (heart said UTMB, head said UTHSC).

However, the only correspondence I've had with UTHSC has been through the admissions/registrar's office and I think it's unfair to judge the professors/entire staff by the emails from a few (probably highly overworked and extremely busy) persons.

Congrats on everyone's acceptance. No word yet here :(. Anyone receive acceptance emails today?! Praying a lot for an acceptance!!! I received a eval months ago that had a missing transcript. Once that was taken care of I never received another one so I'm unsure of what my gpa is.

I haven't received anything today, nor have I received an evaluation. My biggest fear right now is that there is a mistake that would cause me to be overlooked for possibly not meeting the prereq requirement. I REALLY hope they send emails out tomorrow. I am sure I am not the only one waiting on pins and needles right now. Julia_Ann, did you happen to notice if there was a lag in emails being sent out for Summer acceptance? My poor husband is looking at me like I have completely lost my marbles. Haha!

I'm in the same boat as you @sodahulse :-/ I applied for both the summer and the fall semester and have not heard anything at all. I have two green circles but that is it. I have a 4.0 GPA and scored 90% overall on the HESI with an 870 CT score. I am still praying that those of us that are still waiting will hear something by tomorrow :-)

I have around a 3.85 overall and a 4.0 science with a 97% on my HESI. My circle has been green for a long time and I have no holds. I hope I am just over worrying and we get our emails tomorrow. I guess it does make me feel better that no one seems to have gotten emails today, maybe they are just waiting to have a big enough group to send out tomorrow???

How many people are normally accepted per semester? And do we have an approximate number of people accepted yesterday on the FB page?
