UT Houston (Fall 2014 applicants)

Published

Hello Future Nurses,

Wanted to know if anyone was preparing to take the Hesi a2, and or applying to UT Houston before the Jan. 15, 2014 deadline for Fall 2014???? I would like to form a study forum!!

I live in La Porte, which is in between the Pasadena and Clear Lake area. Commuting is a big factor to consider, especially when you are already having to pay for the school itself. You were accepted for Summer at UTHealth, right?

I stalk these threads a little bit, so I'm sorry if I'm sounding creepy - LOL.

Ha. I stalk them too, no worries! Yes, I was accepted into summer program at UTHealth. I know it shouldn't be that hard to decide. My head says UTHealth, my heart says UTMB. I commuted over an hour each day for my first degree, but then again it was International Business and I'm sure I didn't have half the amount of studying/work that we'll be doing in nursing school.

I like to make lists...sometimes it helps to see it on paper. Maybe rank what the most important things are to you. If you go to UTHealth, you'll be graduating next summer. If that few more months is important to you, then that would be a deciding factor for me...along with commuting and overall cost. I was set on UTMB but commute is a big factor, especially after an exhausting 12 hour shift for clinicals. If cost and commute aren't as much of a factor for you, I would go with whichever makes you more comfortable. You will be spending a lot of time there and should be happy there. A heart can sometimes be misleading, but it can also provide you with a sense of easement and eliminate "what-if" scenarios. If all of your priorities lead you to something your heart isn't in, then go with what you feel will make you happiest. It might not be the most sound advice, but this is how I try to make decisions and I hope it helps you!

I'm a list maker too. After sitting down and writing it all out, I know UTHealth is the most logical choice, but something keeps pulling me back to UTMB. Like you said though, the heart can be deceiving. I'm giving it another week before making a final decision. Thanks for your input :)

@julia_Ann Goodluck deciding! I know it must be such a hard decision, but either way they are both AMAZING schools.

Those of you that received an evaluation, how did you receive it? Email or on the myuth web page?

Just wanted to wish everyone luck while applying! I applied and graduated from UTHealth in 2011 but it just seems like yesterday that I was at these boards waiting with my future classmates :) I logged back into allnurses since I wanted some tips for applying to a new job soon and found this board at the top :p Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey You guys, I'm also applying to UTfall also! I literally read these posts everyday. I'm really excited to know that the accpectances are so close. Do any of you guys have kids? If so, how do you plan to jungle motherhood/fatherhood with nursing school?

I have 4 kids and I don't know how I will juggle. I guess a lot of prayer.

LOL at chavoncrn. I have a kid and am thinking of living her with my mom while in school.. or maybe get an apt and share with a student who has a kid as well.

For the transcript eval, i got my through mail..

I have a 3 year old and there is no juggling for me. Family and school are both major priorities. My husband and I bought our house in La Porte last summer so we will not be moving. Our son will go to preschool during the day while I am at clinical or class, and be with my husband if I have clinicals or am studying at night. I know what I am getting into and sacrificing some daily time is inevitable, but it is worth it for the short time you have to put into succeeding in school. The way I look at it - you do the best with the cards you're dealt. Just do what you have to do to get it all done. :)

I have a 5 year old son. He will start kindergarten in the fall. When I am in class or in clinicals, he will either be at school or in after school care or with my husband. I know I am going to have to sacrifice some family time while going through nursing school but I know it will all be worth it in the end. I am just extremely anxious to find out whether or not I got in. The waiting is killing me! If I didn't get accepted, I will just have to wait a whole semester and apply for programs in the Spring. I don't know what I was thinking putting all my eggs in one basket!

I too have stalked the previous years boards. Lol! I noticed that those who applied for fall 2013 started getting acceptance emails right after spring break but the fall 2012 applicants didn't find out until the middle of April! Hopefully we find out sooner than later!

Hi all! I have applied for both summer and fall 2014. I have not heard anything yet, but I am still anxiously waiting like the rest of you all. I also have two kids: my son who will be 5 in April and a daughter who is 3. My husband will be the one taking care of our kiddos whenever I need him if I am accepted :-)

My stats are:

90% overall HESI with an 870 critical thinking score and I have an all around 4.0 GPA

Good luck to everyone!
