UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

Sorry I posted under the wrong school.

I've been following AllNurses admission forums since I started prerequisites in '15 and always wanted to join in on the applicant threads! I applied last week for UTHSC Spring 2018 Pacesetter!

Wow! That's impressive. You really brought your GPA up!

I try to tell people on here not to look at your stats and compare them to everyone else's. Even though its a pretty good indicator for most schools on who they eventually choose. Not with UTHSC. UT throws some curve balls for sure. And your stats are awesome. I don't know who you're comparing yourself too. LOL. People with 4.0's and high HESI scores didn't even get in last admissions period but people with 3.3's and 80's on their HESI did. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your feedback and positivity!

Hey guys! I am new here but I am also a Spring 2018 hopeful. Just a question, all of the previous forums for other application cycles are talking about critical thinking, do we need that? Also, how do we go about getting our transcripts to them? Thanks!

The Critical Thinking section requirement varies among programs. UTHealth does not require it.

When you first register for the HESI, you can take it under the UTHealth school code, and they will automatically receive your scores after you take it. If you have already taken the HESI under a different school code, you would have to purchase another transcript (around $15) directly from Elsevier, and have them send an official transcript to your school of choice. Keep in mind this process takes about 7 - 10 business days from the time you submit your request. You can find more info on the Elsevier website. You'd have to purchase the transcript first. Once you get your invoice number, you'll have to fill out a form with your information and the recipient school's information, and there's a section to provide your invoice number. Once you've completed the form, you will send it to the email provided by Elsevier.

The sections we need for UTH are Math, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Vocabulary.

Hey y'all!

I've submitted my application for UTH for Spring 2018 and just like everyone else, I'm nervous as hell. I'm 27 and spent my first year and a half of college at UT Austin with an undiagnosed learning disorder, long story short, I left there with a 1.96 :( That is what's giving me such anxiety, even though only one of those courses is a UTH pre-req. Anyway, I did some soul searching after I left UT and went to culinary school. I graduated from there with a 3.75, and an AA in Culinary Arts. I took a few years off my career as a personal chef, to have my daughter and stay home with her, but during that time I realized I wanted to go back to school to be in the medical field. So, I'm currently in my last pre-req (A&P II) at Lone Star and I have a 3.81 gpa there. I just took the HESI at Lone Star on 8/7 and ordered a transcript of my scores to be sent to UTH the same day, but of course they say it takes 7-10 days to process, but at the UTH info session I attended on 8/4 they told us Evolve takes 22 days to send scores even though they tell you it takes way less time. Yikes! I'm nervous for a variety of reason, other that my UT Austin gpa reflecting badly on me, even though at the info session I also asked if they considered past gpa and they told me they didn't, but after reading various threads on here, I'm getting conflicting info. Another reason for my anxiety is that my culinary school only had the option to mail my transcript, which they say they did on 7/31, but UTH still has not received it. So my application is lacking my HESI scores and one transcript on top of my shoddy first college gpa. I've done all I can do, I think. Anyways, my stats are:

HESI Overall 94.4

Reading: 92

Grammar: 94

Vocal: 94

A&P: 96

Math:96

My science gpa is 4.0 (sans A&PII which I'm currently taking)

My pre-req gpa is 3.84 (if I'm calculating it correctly)

My overall gpa is 3.17

Maybe my anxiety is unwarranted, except worrying about my application documents arriving before the deadline. I was contemplating retaking one class to boost my gpa but I'm not sure. One of my pre-req grades is from when I was failing miserably at UT Austin, it was a C in Intro to Sociology. Other than that the only non-A I received was in Am. Gov and it was a B. I've been told by a friend that just started at UTH this summer, and by classmates that are trying to get into nursing as well, that I'm a shoe-in. But I don't want to get my hopes up, especially after knowing how much variance there is in those who get accepted. Geez! I'm just gonna be a wreck until they send out decisions. lol

And Anatomy is required!

I second what Anna said, I'll be starting in the fall as well my hesi overall score was an average 86 with my GPA at a 3.8. All you can do is pray! I don't know how they choose their candidates but their were definitely many people who had scores on the higher end and got denied. Anything is possible so never doubt yourself.

I guess I will get in on this. I am applying just waiting on my last transcript to be sent (had to send two cause the first got lost).

GPA's: somewhere around 3.5 somewhat higher for my science GPA

HESI: 96.4 overall, 92 reading, 96 grammar, 100 vocab, 96 science, 98 math

Really worried about my withdrawal from a past university. I left due to personal reasons, but of course they don't know that. Does anyone know if we are allowed to submit personal statements? I feel like my application is incomplete without a resume and statement.

I have pretty extensive volunteer hours (over 2,000) and I have worked two jobs throughout my undergrad career. This school is my top choice and I am so nervous I won't make it in!

Hi there! I am applying to the nursing program as well and I think I just had the most epic fail moment and I'm hoping it's not true since I just spent a ton of money to apply.

The UTHealth website is all over the place in regards to information. I was under the impression that as long as I had 40 out the 60 prereq credits then I could apply with no issue. But as my luck would have it, there is the statement that " if admission is offered all prerequisite courses must be completed prior to the start of class." Based on that list of the sixty credits, I am missing one class. Texas flipping government. I got my BS in another state that doesn't have this crazy nationalistic sense of pride, so I wasn't required to take a state specific government class since I already complete the United States Government course.

I am definitely not in the financial position to take a class unless I know I get in the program. Does UTHealth offer winter courses/online courses for classes like this?

Additional question, elective prerequisites are five credits and must be college-level. I have a BS so I'm not worried about electives not being fulfilled, but what classes do they accept as electives? I have a degree in Animal Science so I'm going to laugh if things like animal reproduction or farm productivity are going to be accepted.
