UT AE MSN 2015

Published

Hi all! I know this is a bit early, considering the application doesn't even go live until August 1, but UT is my number one school for Nursing. I just graduated from UGA with a BS in Psychology, and have around a 3.5 GPA. I have yet to take the GRE. I also am going to get a CNA certification and work for a year (hopefully in MedSurg) as well as shadow a family friend who is a Pediatric nurse. Many years before us have started a thread so I figured it would be a good idea to start one! I would really like to go into their Nurse Practitioner program, but as of right now there are some changes going on that said would be solidified in the fall.

Any feedback would be wonderful! As well as personal experience and what not!

Hi everyone, I just discovered this site. I applied for the CNS track and had my interview this morning. I've read through the thread, but I'd love to hear if anyone has anymore info on CNS track (like number of interviewees). From what I understand, admission notices will go out at the end of January.

Kcast22, I am also having trouble with the fingerprinting site, but the website said it could take up to 2 days for us to show up in the system if we were coming through BON.

Just finished my interview for psych NP this afternoon!! Excited and terrified. It sounds like there are lots of different ways to end up in the NP program. So if your not scheduled this time around you have another shot after the foundation year if spite are available. And if you end up graduating from the ae-msn program you can finish up the psych NP portion pretty fast..... It's just the scenic route.

Hi all! I'm applying to LeaDs and I have my phone interview scheduled for this Saturday (12/13). Does anybody know how many people are declared LeaDs? 64 spots sounds like a lot. Wouldn't ~40 make more sense, based on kcast22's assessment?

The info I received at the information session on Thursday was that there going to be 64 students total. the least amount going to NP, double NP number to CNS, and the remaining to LeaDs which was said to have more seats than CNS. So, if the magic number for NP is 8, then there would be 16 seats in CNS. But that would only leave a couple of spots for those being wait listed which doesn't seem right. But perhaps I took the information too literally and there isn't exactly double the amount of CNS as NP. Although, the word double was used.

I met with Tracy in April and she said that there are typically 100-150 applicants and that about 60 will be accepted, total, with about 10-15 seats per track. Of course that was before the program changed and they dumped the Adult Holistic Health option.

Good luck everybody!

Anyone else having trouble logging into the background check website that was sent for our fast pass?

I'm also having trouble, same as yesterday. I'm going to get my fingerprints done on Friday and then try again. Kcast22, do you live outside of Texas?

I tried the website again this morning and it worked.

My interview is tomorrow at noon. I'm pretty nervous! Any advice? What kinds of questions were asked?

When I went to the LeaDs Q&A last week only three people showed up, including myself. The coordinator said "the rest" had their questions answered via email. This group was only for original NP applicants who they had asked to switch over. With only three of us showing up to the session, I can imagine a ton more were asked to switch over. The way we all saw it was we wanted face time, regardless if we had questions or not. And I expected if a bunch were asked, more than three would have showed up. But that is just speculation. I asked her if people originally applied for LeaDs, as there was little information on the website listed on it so I didn't think many would blindly apply and she said that yes some did. But asking some of us to switch makes me think maybe there just weren't enough qualified applicants who applied. Again, speculation.

Kcast: I will just say that once I got in there I was very at ease. VERY friendly people, just be yourself and show that you are passionate about this career and this school. Also getting there early and hanging out in the lobby helped me calm down. Chatted with other students and the guards are really laid back too. I'm sure they have been dealing with nervous wreck applicants all week. They lightened the mood. Good luck!!

Just finished my interview. from what it sounds like, NP and CNS candidates who aren't offered a spot in their respective programs may be offered a spot in LeaDs if they want it. So that is good news for those candidates.

Kcast22 - I like that info!! Did anyone else receive the email today about what to do with your transcripts if you're currently taking a course? I am taking one through Straighterline (it's the self-paced course), so I'm wondering if I can allow myself to finish closer towards the end of the month, rather than trying to finish by the 20th. Looks like we can have our transcript emailed, and that it doesn't necessarily have to be physically mailed and to their office by January 5th (so long as it's emailed by then). Is this how everyone else understands that as well? Thanks!

Hi all!

My interview was today...I was super nervous, but it was not bad at all! My interviewers were very friendly, and helped put me at ease by engaging in small talk at the beginning of the interview.

My recommendations to all those who haven't gone in yet: look for sample interview questions and frame up responses for them. I found good questions (a lot of which Came up in my interview) on allnurses boards. It helps if you practice responding aloud as well...I practiced with a friend and also by myself before the meeting, to help polish my responses.

In addition to that, I would also recommend researching the program and coming up with a few questions for your interviewers. I asked 5 questions, and they were very happy to respond.

All in all, I had a good experience. Now comes the hard part...waiting!

It sounds like everyone's interviews have been done by multiple people. Mine was done with just one interviewer in her office. Interesting...

What kind of feedback has everyone received from their interviewers? Mine was very encouraging and said I was a strong candidate based on the interview. She didn't have my file or anything though. She then said she passes the interview information along to the next group of people who meet and make the final decisions. It sounded like we will be re ranked collectively and then they will place us in the programs. For ex if an NP applicant doesn't make the cut for the NP program he or she may still be ranked higher than LeaDs candidates and be placed there.

@kcast22, I'm glad to hear it went well! I think it's a really good sign that she said you were a strong candidate! Your interview experience and understanding of the admissions process both seem similar to mine. I was also only interviewed by one person and it was in her office. During the information session, one of the faculty members said that the interview is somehow scored quantitatively and that there is an algorithm that factors in test scores, rec letters, etc. This score is used to rank candidates for admissions decisions.
