UT AE MSN 2015

Published

Hi all! I know this is a bit early, considering the application doesn't even go live until August 1, but UT is my number one school for Nursing. I just graduated from UGA with a BS in Psychology, and have around a 3.5 GPA. I have yet to take the GRE. I also am going to get a CNA certification and work for a year (hopefully in MedSurg) as well as shadow a family friend who is a Pediatric nurse. Many years before us have started a thread so I figured it would be a good idea to start one! I would really like to go into their Nurse Practitioner program, but as of right now there are some changes going on that said would be solidified in the fall.

Any feedback would be wonderful! As well as personal experience and what not!

kcast22 - any new info on how many seat are available for NP and LeaDs after going to the info session last night?

She didn't give any exact numbers (believe me, I tried). What she said was they were accepting 64 students total. x amount are going to the NP program. Twice as many as that are going to the CNS program. And the remaining are going to LeaDs. She said the LeaDs program had more seats than the CNS program. I tried different numbers in my head to make the math work and it would seem that the NP number would need to be 12 or less. She said that those being interviewed will either get a spot in the program or will be wait listed- so you aren't likely to be outright rejected if you receive an interview. The number of those wait listed who are eventually admitted varies every year so she didn't give us a number on that.

She did say that this year's applicant pool was unsual in that half of the applicants applied to the NP program and that a large number of them were considered "highly qualified" under their usual standards. That is why they offered us the chance to apply to LeaDs instead, if we were qualified but just missed the cut for the interview.

Since I only found out about the AE program in the second week of October (had one week to study for the GRE :/ ) I wasn't able to attend any information sessions that may have occurred. So I asked about the class schedule in the first year and she said that we would be in clinicals about 3x a week, M-F, one day would be 6:45am-3:15pm, one might be 2:30-10pm, but the rest of the classes were during the daytime.

Other than that, the information session was geared towards the LeaDs program specifically, which I would gladly accept a position in over nothing. It is taking place of the "undeclared" students you may have read about in previous years on these forums.

Oh and they also mentioned that acceptances would go out anywhere from late January to March.

Wow! Thank you so much for all of the great info. This is way different than in previous years. I agree with you; I would gladly take a spot in LeaDs over nothing. Waiting until late January to March seems SO far away!!

I am anxious to find out about interviews for LeaDs. They said we would know within a week or two if we got one, and they would be conducted before Christmas. She did say that if we were asked to switch to this program we would most likely be given an interview. So I can rest a little easier knowing that. But waiting for the next week or so just to hear about an interview is nerve-racking let alone thinking about waiting until March to know the outcome. Only three people showed up last night, so I am hoping not too many people were asked to switch and the chances of being admitted will be higher. I honestly never even saw the LeaDs option when I originally applied.

This was my first time going to see the school of nursing. Everyone seems very friendly. Parking will be an issue but I imagine its an issue for every UT student because of the location. There is a lot of construction in front of the nursing building so that part of Red River St is closed. So for those of you going in for an interview next week, I'd suggest going to trinity and parking in that garage. I paid $12 for 3 hours there. There is a cut through from the garage directly to the SON so you don't have to walk down MLK.

Anyways, good luck everyone on their interviews. I will wait not-so-patiently to hear about mine.

Oh, wow! I can't believe there were only three people there. That is good news - I definitely feel like you will get an interview! The construction is nuts around the school of nursing right now. I am actually having my boyfriend drop me off at my interview on Tuesday, that way it takes a little stress off of finding the parking and walking. I will let you know how it goes. I've met a few people in the school of nursing through previous info sessions, and everyone seems really nice! So I feel like the interview will be pretty laid back (which is also what people have said in forums from previous years). Good luck! I hope you hear about your interview soon!

Hi all.

I received an interview yesterday and scheduled it for Tuesday also! I'm beyond nervous for it because I desperately want to get in. I only applied here for the CNS track. I would have loved if they had more options available for ae msn but that was he closest to what I want later in life. I hope we all get in and get to meet soon! I would love if we could hear back in January. I have a friend in the program who got accepted last March.

Does anyone know how many students applied to the ae msn program this year?

Congrats, Utvault17! I am sure you will do great. I haven't heard how many people applied this year. Maybe they'll give us that info in the group session. I wish we knew how many got an interview.

Just saying hello to all other AE-MSN applicants. I applied to the NP program and have my interview next Wednesday. Did I read correctly that those offered interviews are either admitted or wait-listed? Any other NP applicants with interviews have some information?

Hi all! Also applied for the AE MSN program here! About the definite acceptance/waitlist thing, is that only for the NP track or for everyone who got an interview, regardless which concentration they pick? Have my interview tomorrow, but seems like it's going to be super laid-back as per feedback from the previous years' threads..

I'm not sure; hopefully we'll find out tomorrow! Anyone else feeling a little bit nervous?!
