UT AE MSN 2015

Published

Hi all! I know this is a bit early, considering the application doesn't even go live until August 1, but UT is my number one school for Nursing. I just graduated from UGA with a BS in Psychology, and have around a 3.5 GPA. I have yet to take the GRE. I also am going to get a CNA certification and work for a year (hopefully in MedSurg) as well as shadow a family friend who is a Pediatric nurse. Many years before us have started a thread so I figured it would be a good idea to start one! I would really like to go into their Nurse Practitioner program, but as of right now there are some changes going on that said would be solidified in the fall.

Any feedback would be wonderful! As well as personal experience and what not!

I am also considering apply for the AE-MSN program for the 2015 start. I have a BS in Finance, but I have made a commitment to a career change a year ago. I recently obtained my LVN license and I love the freedom and flexibility that nursing provides. I would like to get into the psych np program. I've been looking through UT's website for information on the admission stats of previously admitted students, to see if I'll even be competitive enough to apply to the program, but I haven't had any luck. I have only gotten A's and B's throughout college, but I've heard of 4.0 GPA's not being admittted. I like to think I'm well rounded, with a lot of life experience, healthcare experience and volunteer experience, but I'm not sure how everything is weighted. Not to mention the GRE. Either way...I'm in this journey with you and hopefully we'll be able to support each other through the process. Good luck!

it's fun to read your comments. i was in your position last year. i'm in the ae program and loving it. tons, tons, tons of work, but it's worth it. good luck to you all

Hi @jinglrbob ..I am also applying to the 2015 program. I was wondering if you can give us some insight of your experience? Like what specialty you chose, application process, and how classes have been so far. Also if you are considering working and doing the program part time after the first year? ...Is that a process in which UT helps you with?

Any info would really help. thanks! :)

Hi all, I'm also applying to UT Austin for the AE-MSN program. Nearly a month left until apps are due! I'm applying for the CNS program. Does anyone know why the other concentrations are not offered anymore? Are they limiting the amount of students being admitted?

Well, here's hoping that we all get in!

Greetings!

I have just submitted my application to UT, now I am working on wrangling transcripts and polishing up my essay. I am also applying for the CNS program.

My background: I graduated from Michigan State with a BA in English, and taught here in Austin for almost 7 years (mostly middle school). I always knew I wanted to go into medicine, so I have quit teaching and here I am... taking the grad school plunge! Scary but exciting.

Hi All, just thought I'd share the following information. I emailed Tracy, the graduate coordinator, asking about when decisions were going to be made and she said that 70% of applicants will be asked for an interview that will take place between late November through January. Decisions will be made at the end of January through March. It seems so long away, but will come in no time!

Has anyone else received the SSN request for the background check? I got an email from Tracy today.

I received an email as yesterday as well!

Has anyone been invited for an interview yet? I haven't; just wondering! It looks like last year (or maybe the year before they started getting invites late November/early December. I hope it's the same timeframe, even though the application submittal date got pushed back a month.

I haven't heard anything since Tracy's last email confirming receipt of my SSN. Since the deadline got pushed back, I assume they won't start sending out invites until after Christmas, since there are really only 2 weeks of school left and everyone is prepping for finals. I hope I'm wrong...the waiting is killing me!

Same here!! What did you apply for? I applied for Psych/Mental Health NP. From the past forums, it looks like they contact people about interviews/admissions at different times.
