APRN applying for RN role in acute care
Hello! I am an APRN in TX (AGCNS-BC) who went to a MSN bridge program and I am having the hardest time getting into the acute care setting, despite being acute care trained. I have never worked in an acute care setting as an RN or APRN - due to circumstances outside of my control - and I have been applying for RN positions in the hospitals with no luck. If I do get a (rare) call for an interview it usually doesn't go further than that. It is incredibly frustrating, because despite being completely transparent about wanting to step back into the RN role in order to hone my acute care skills and learn new skills (and being up front about being willing to commit to 1-2 years in the role, despite the pay cut), no one is interested. I've been told by a few people that unit managers usually don't want to hire APRNs or MSNs because they are afraid that they'll leave once a better position presents itself - but that is not my goal. On the flip side, I can't get an APRN job because of my lack of acute care experience - feeling stuck and like I'm spinning my wheels. My current role is primarily research based but I am solely interested in patient care / teaching. I'm smart, I'm capable, and I'm hardworking - all I'm missing is an opportunity. Has anyone else experienced this? Advice? I'm feeling especially useless now that there is a pandemic and I can't help - literally got turned down for an ICU RN role last week and as much as I don't want to be down in the dumps about it, it hurt.

My husband and I live in Kyle and have discussed taking a roommate, if anybody is interested. My commute is about an hour in rush hour traffic, but the distance is only about 25 miles. Good possibility we could carpool. Also, I requested membership in the FB group; name's Catherine 😠- howdy do!

Stressing over nothing....got the email from the Office of Admissions around 11:30 last night. The official letter of acceptance can be downloaded from your My Status account. Hooray for everyone who got good news so far!

Has anyone gotten an email from the Graduate Center with the official acceptance? Or should we just go with the My Status update?

I haven't gotten any information about LEADS, and it seems that only those who applied to NP were offered a chance to change their cohort...based on what I've read here.

Happy New Year y'all! All this talk of decisions has me anxious too! Has anyone heard anything about AG-CNS?

Hi all! My interview was today...I was super nervous, but it was not bad at all! My interviewers were very friendly, and helped put me at ease by engaging in small talk at the beginning of the interview. My recommendations to all those who haven't gone in yet: look for sample interview questions and frame up responses for them. I found good questions (a lot of which Came up in my interview) on allnurses boards. It helps if you practice responding aloud as well...I practiced with a friend and also by myself before the meeting, to help polish my responses. In addition to that, I would also recommend researching the program and coming up with a few questions for your interviewers. I asked 5 questions, and they were very happy to respond. All in all, I had a good experience. Now comes the hard part...waiting!

I was invited for an interview today, to be conducted some time next week. Anyone else?

I applied for Adult Gerontology CNS, so there's a good chance one of us will be interviewed before the other. Wonder how many students they'll admit for each program?

I haven't heard anything since Tracy's last email confirming receipt of my SSN. Since the deadline got pushed back, I assume they won't start sending out invites until after Christmas, since there are really only 2 weeks of school left and everyone is prepping for finals. I hope I'm wrong...the waiting is killing me!
