Hi! I've seen other threads like this one. Pretty much it is just a support thread of anyone who is applying to the University of South Florida's Fall 2017 nursing class. There are threads for about every other year except 2017, so I am starting it. If there is anyone else who just wants to talk to someone going through the process like me, feel free to reply to this discussion.
Good luck to anyone applying to nursing school this semester. I understand first hand how nerve racking it can be!
From speaking to a few professors conducting interviews at the CON, the interview holds substantial weight in comparison to the GPA. Many who apply have high GPA's, therefore, it is the interview that sets everyone apart. I can attest, being my GPA was on the low end and I was accepted into the program.
Hi! First time posting in this forum, super anxious. USF is the only university I was able to apply to. I have my AA degree, my overall GPA should now be a 3.5 and on degree works it shows my prereq GPA being an 3.88, BUT I had retaken A&P1 so I believe my prerequisite GPA to only be a 3.5 at USF. After being denied an interview for the first cycle and knowing so many people with higher GPAs than mine had also got denied an interview I am not at all feeling confident. Just hope by some miracle I may get an interview = having a good chance to get into the program. It's crazy that at the nursing information session those with 3.0 GPAs were being advised to retake classes to raise their GPA to a 3.2 so they would have a chance to be admitted into the nursing program. I was also told that some people with 3.3, 3.4 GPAs have been accepted last year by the lady at the USF nursing information session. After being denied a interview for cycle one, I sent a email and had gotten a reply that the average person who got selected for the cycle 1 interview had a 3.88 GPA. I have also applied to HCC, SPC & PHSC. Unfortunately my first year of college I was completely oblivious to how competitive it is to get into nursing school. This whole process has been very stressful.
TampaNursing I totally understand how you are feeling right now. All I can say is to remain hopeful that you will get an interview. I'm telling you! U never know with these schools. Also, From what I heard from an advisor, not a lot of seats were given this first cycle hence why a lot of people being denied even with High GPAS. Is this ur first time applying to nursing school? I would suggest looking into schools that have spring or summer semesters just as a back up. And if u really want to go to usf, maybe apply for next fall if everything does not work out that is.

Thank you and yes this is my first time applying to nursing schools. I completed all prereqs and got my AA December 2016. I feel like I should be able to get into a BSN program somewhere, but unfortunately issues had arised making me unable to apply to any other universities this fall. So I will likely end up doing ASN to BSN = 2 years to get my ASN (at SPC/HCC/PHSC) then an additional year online for my BSN. It will be very depressing if I get denied to everywhere I applied to this fall. I'm really indecisive about waiting longer in hope to be accepted into an BSN program and having to move away next spring or summer.

Paisita22 I'm not sure what they asked this year as I wasn't interviewed. From last year, All I can say is that is a very short individual interview. You will have two interviewers that will ask about 5 questions and they write continuously as u speak. I think it's a certain number of points u have to have altogether withir GPA to get in.
