Noctanol---it is against the law in Texas for anyone to present themselves as a nurse. Check the BON website & you will sometimes find folks being "hunted" for impersonating a nurse . The folks you work with, who do that, especially if they present themselves as nurses to family members/ patients are indeed breaking the law. Check the BON and see what is the requirement, if any, regarding reporting of this illegal activity.

I agree with this.. the general public don't give a damn is the person rooming them, checking their vitals, taking history, ect ect is a MA, RN, LVN, CNA, etc... They are often simply referred to as nurse. To be completely honest, until I became really interested in this field I NEVER lookedd at the letters behind someones name. I trust my doctor to hire capable people and for the most part I assumed that meant they were nurses of some sort.
I'm pretty sure that the majority of those who care if the term is misused are nurses. (I'm not saying that is bad, it just is) Doctors are the same way.. a lot of them get irritated when people confuse PhD with MD.
