I have once in the past pushed a prolapsed uterus back in but it wasn't very far out. The RN in charge( I am an RPN) instructed me to do it and didn't seen too concerned. Coincidentally I put a prolapsed rectum back in place today for the first time. I was told it was okay for us to do this. I will be interested to hear others experience with this.
Thanks for the quick responses! I love allnurses.com. Well, I actually didn't have to push anything anywhere because once we put her in bed and in reverse trendelenberg, it, er, went back up. Then a night turn girl came in and was like, "Oh yah, I've pushed hundreds back in". Well, whatever. I had no idea. I still don't know if it's bladder or uterus-I definitely did NOT see a cervix-it looked like a small baby's head crowning, minus the hair. how do you tell the difference?
ahh one of the reasons I love working in a hospital.
Not sure how it works in the US, can't you get the doc to do a home visit to assess the patient?
If not, and it's not something you've done before then personally I wouldn't be comfortable doing it
If you can't get the doc in you send the patient to the emergency room. I have never seen a prolapsed bladder and would think that would be a source for infection.
rnto?

So, I'm at work right now in a LTC facility. We have an elderly woman with a prolapsed something-don't know if it's uterus or bladder. Doc said to push it back in. Can I do that as a nursing measure? Thanks!
