UPMC Shadyside 2010 hopefuls

I'm hoping to get into Shadyside in either sprig 2010 or the fall. Anyone else out there already accepted or trying as well?

I still havnt received mine either! Im thinkin ill just have to get all the information next week. Im surprised we both havnt received them. At least we both had wierd situations so they had to let us know otherwise id be dying!

Well, i actually got my packet today can you believe it? haha It didn't get lost this time! But yours should be coming soon, hopefully before Wed.

So I'm filling out the paperwork and I have some questions. For the Criminal Clearance form did you all mail it in or just do it online? And if you did it online what box did you check you were doing it for?

So I went down there today and spoke to Natalie. She informed me that the scores STILL are not in yet, but also that all of the spots have been filled. And they don't have a waitlist so to speak for March. Like if someone doesn't pass the blood testing or background checks, etc., they don't then make more spots available. I guess it takes so long to go through that process that there wouldn't be time to then allow other applicants go through the same thing in time for classes to begin.:crying2:

SOOOO...She said that as long as I passed the exam, I would be in the first group to be considered for August. That means alot more people are gonna be disappointed once they find out. The worst part is today is my birthday, and I had to get this crappy news...oh well. I guess this gives me more time to get family things together I guess.

I am so sorry to hear that. Butthere are ways you can take advantage of the delay. If you can try to get some of the non nursing courses out of the way once you get your scores... speaking from experience they can really bog you down time wise. lots of students take nutrition and human growth and development and even micro and a&p @ccac to save money and time later. i will caution you though that if you do take a&p you have to take them both at the same school so be careful with the timing but the other ones i mentioned are easy to get out of the way and frees up your time to work on nursing courses

Keep your chin up those of you not in the spring "10" class. I was in the same boat as you for the fall 2009 class and I am now in the spring class. It does bum you out because you want to go so bad, but it just makes it that much better when you get accepted for the the next class! It makes you really appreciate it! Best of luck to you!

Oh I hope you get it today! I wish I would have known last night you were leaving today I could have copied the important papers you needed for Wed. for you. But I'm sure they can give it to you when you get there. Haha be careful on the trip and get ready to welcome in the cold :(

Also for everyone else I'm not sure if they talk about this in the meeting since I haven't went yet but I posted this in the older forum for those that started in the fall and I figured I would post it here for everyone to see.

In 102 learning lab they run you through everything step by step. There are people who have worked as PCT's who knew that stuff and people who didn't know the front end of a stethoscope from the back end...it totally doesn't matter which category you fall into...the instructors go over everything really well. You are asked to get a pen light, a stethoscope, and a BP cuff for clinicals. YOU DON'T NEED THE 300 DOLLAR STUFF! The basic equipment is more than adequate. Also, a clipboard with nursing cheats on it really reduces first clinical rotation panic :)

Definitely take Micro in advance if you can get it out of the way. Our current class is having a nightmare of a time with it. . .I hope you don't get stuck with the same instructor and, in particular, lab instructor. It would make the first semester a lot easier.

I have a lighter load next semester because I got nutrition out of the way, which I'd also recommend (CCAC teaches it online, it's totally easy); pharmacology, A&PII and Nursing 102 at the same time is going to be enough.

I think there are a good number of people in my class who failed Nursing 101, so they're taking up a lot of spaces in the winter-entry 100s class.

If you don't mind me asking what made Nursing 101 so hard? I just want to make sure I'm fully prepared knowing ahead of time what to expect. Also since you said they are taking up a lot of spaces how will that affect those of us who were accepted?

i honestly cant imagine why so many people would fail 101, wasnt really that difficult if you paid attention. as for taking up spaces just because you fail and want to come back doesnt mean you will. you have to apply for readmission and go through meetings and a bunch other things. there are a few people in my class now that were in that boat. it is not an automatic spot in the next class if you fail.

Hallelujah! I just spoke to Natalie and I FINALLY got my test scores! I passed everything with flying colors! And I had my application ready to be mailed, so I just mailed it in at work! LOL:D Get ready to see me in the Fall!
