Kicking myself in the butt- may not be able to start NS..

Good luck. I can honestly tell you that I have seen it go either way really depends on the school. What school are you supposed to be starting at?

Seriously considering leaving my nursing program.....

I just want to thank you all for your kind words of understanding and encouragement, and most of all your must needed advice. So I decided to take it easy and just give my self a break. The result: I got a B on my last exam, but it most assuredly did not kill me or my GPA. lol !!!! So now when I get home, instead of cracking open a book, I turn on spongebob for a while and do absolutely nothing.....
  3. I am about 5 months away from completing my program and everyday I have to force myself to go to class/clinicals. I have maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA through my entire program and I really think the stress of maintaining that has finally gotten to me. The thing is, I really want to be a nurse more than anything and I love helping people. I am not just sure I will make it through the rest of the program with my sanity intact. I am also afraid to take a rotation off because I think that when you leave things in general, the longer you are away the harder it is to go back. I just don't know what to do. It is impossible to talk to classmates because as far as they are concerned I am doing well while a lot of them are struggling so in their view I have nothing to complain about. Friends and family outside of school are no help because they can't begin to understand how stressful nursing school really is. It is so bad that I honestly end up in tears some days. I really am at a loss as to what to do so that I can get through this. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

oh ok but the only difference was the quizzes... our projects got points only to determine if you got enough to pass.. but you didnt earn any points towards your grade for it. and as for the questions ....lol get used to it.. they only get more and more vague as you go on and honestly if you dont get a grasp of how to answer those questions you are not going to do very well. it is really too bad that people had such a hard time because that means they have to make sure they dont fail anything else... because once you fail 2 that is it, and using you first fail for 101 is rough because the pressure is really on you. well at any rate good luck with your next set of classes... they are much more interesting than the first set.

i honestly cant imagine why so many people would fail 101, wasnt really that difficult if you paid attention. as for taking up spaces just because you fail and want to come back doesnt mean you will. you have to apply for readmission and go through meetings and a bunch other things. there are a few people in my class now that were in that boat. it is not an automatic spot in the next class if you fail.

I am so sorry to hear that. Butthere are ways you can take advantage of the delay. If you can try to get some of the non nursing courses out of the way once you get your scores... speaking from experience they can really bog you down time wise. lots of students take nutrition and human growth and development and even micro and a&p @ccac to save money and time later. i will caution you though that if you do take a&p you have to take them both at the same school so be careful with the timing but the other ones i mentioned are easy to get out of the way and frees up your time to work on nursing courses

lol. it might and i actually have an explination as to why. nothing actually gets mailed directly from the school. everything goes to the main upmc mailroom for processing and then things are sent out. so lets say natialie sends them out on monday, they may not get to the actual post office until a week or so later.

lol trust me natalie is really great and even though she may seem frustrated at times she really doesnt mind being hounded..i did it to her and we still laugh about it everytime she passes me in the halls. and i will tell you this it never hurts to be a thorn in their side.... she told me after it was all said and done that they take it as a sign of how much you want it.

i am sorry maybe you misunderstood. i actually graduate next year so i am not speaking as a current applicant but as someone who was in the same position last year that you are in now. i just wanted to let everyone know that it is still quite possible to get a slot even at the last minute and if you read my previous post... even with a lot of delays and issues. good luck!

ok hopefully my story will help you feel better. I took the very last test as i stated. I got my results back a few days before christmas... almost a month later! so as soon as i got them i sent in the application that same day, i actually hand delivered it so that she could start working on it. so then i started the wait to see if i would be accepted. I called several times and was told that they were still processing them. now school started march 2nd and by january 23 i still had no clue so i called and was told that they could not give the information over the phone but that i should be watching my mail. so at this point i am pretty sure i got in but by feb 2nd still nothing so i went down there only to find out that i had been accepted but never recieived the packet and missed the deadline for accepting the slot. well i at this point i couldnt prove that i never got it so they were debating about what to do. i get home that afternoon to find a package from the post office filled with shredded papers and an apology letter from the post office. of course it was my acceptance package. i took it to natalie who quickly realized that me missing the deadline wasnt my fault printed another packet for me. then came the mad dash to get all my documentation and clearances before the feb 27th deadline. let me tell you i practically had to bribe people to get it done but i did. so as i am sitting in orientation on that first day 7 people were pulled out because their clearances werent in which made them out of compliance.... and a couple of people in my graduating class now are there because they had their paperwork ready even though they were told they wouldnt be able to start until the fall. so the moral of my story is this, print out everything you will need. get your letters of recommendation ready. not sure if you still have to write the essay but if so.. do it now. have it all ready to go. and the second you mail it start working on your clearances. they dont tell you exactly how to go about this until you get the acceptance package but trust me there are those of us that will walk you through it since they have to be redone once a year we all have the information. i know it is hard to be patient and it may seem as though things are dragging but progress will be made. so good luck and once you get your scores if you need help with anything feel free to ask.

well let me just assure you all that the extra trouble and drama it seems to take to get into the school is well worth it. and just because you take the last test dont let that stop you. i took the very last test too and got a spot and i actually graduate next year so hang in there.

Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

hmmm. i wonder why we were told something different.... but again they are always changing things and it just may not be retroactive... who knows. i just cant imagine why we would be told this if it wasnt true. i even asked a few others to make sure i hadn't just misunderstood and they remember exactly what i stated before.... lol but as crazy as things have been since i started it would not surprise me at all if you and i both are somehow right...

Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

Now that is pretty tricky. they do accept recent science courses but not sure about nursing. i know a few people in my class who transferred from other nursing schools and they didnt accept them but i am not entirely sure of the reason. could be that they just dont, or that they just didnt accept those for some specific reason. your best bet would be to just call and ask.

    Which hospitals pay for school?

actually i am at UPMC shadyside now and my class was the last to get the full free ride they recently changed it. from what i understand they will pay for it once you get through the first 2 semesters. but they still want the 2 year commitment. now this is still a great deal. but the program is a tough and demanding one and there are casualties of war every semester. they were basically losing money so the modified it... cant really blame them for that it makes perfectly good sense from a business standpoint. i do have a friend that just got into UPMC mercy and they are still doing the full tuition forgiveness program at least for now so you may want to check there.
