Don't give up hope!!! It will all work out. I am a recent grad of Shadyside SON and without going into long boing detial i went through wayyyyy more drama than it appears you have... and would do it all again. In the end it was worth it the program is amazing! Just remember that if you get the sciences out of the way make sure you do them both A&P 1 and 2 and that you take them at the same place otherwise they will make you do it over...lol they are full of annoying quirks but even with that you will be hard pressed to find a better program.

My first concern after graduation was whether or not i would be able to find a job. Ok. so i got a job. now what?. I just graduated in Dec of 2010 and passed the boards a couple of weeks ago. I am a bit surprised at how fast I got a job because I didnt even apply until I had passed the nclex. now the issue is that i was hired on to an abdominal transplant unit and the patients tend to be very sick, much sicker than those i typically saw on my clinical rotations during school. I am a bit concerned because the orientation time with a preceptor is only 6 weeks long. and while that may sound like a long time we only work 3 days a week 12hr shifts so i am really concerned that it will not be enough time to learn what i need to learn. Dont get me wrong i am very happy that i found a job so quickly, but i thought i would have more time to adjust to finishing school before i was thrown the the wolves........

THANKS! I got 75 and to be honest I didnt have a study plan. As soon as we started med/surg in school we were told to start answering questions and not to stop until we had done at least 5000.. all through school i probably did about 7000 that is pretty much it other than a quick lab value and med math review the week before i tested.

I know that I am a little late, wish I had seen this thread before i took the test! At any rate it isnt too late to ask everyone to pray for my sanity as I wait for results. I took the exam yesterday morning and am completely losing my mind!

I am a nervous wreck! I took the test yesterday morning and I havent slept since. I have cleaned the house from top to bottom... including the attic and the garage, I gave both of my dogs baths and haircuts (they were not amused). They did however forgive me later when i made them a chuck roast for dinner lol! My mother is so tired of me obsessing that she has turned her cell phone off. How on earth did everyone stand the wait? I did try the PVT and got the "good pop up" which eased my mind a little but you know how it is..... everybody thinks that they will be the fist person that it doesn't work for ...lol I am no different. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to pass the time or funny stories about when they were waiting it would be greatly appreciated... I could use the diversion.

i want to thank you so much for your response! i took it to heart and it really helped me hold on to inner peace and calmness as i took my exam. i am eternally grateful. as a side note if the the pvt is to be believed all is well and i will have great news once the quick results are posted. again.. many many thanks:heartbeat

hey the hard part is over .... we did it!!!! but i can relate no point in checking until tomorrow for me so i am just trying to keep myself busy lol

CONGRATS!!! i took mine this morning and i wasnt as patient as you lol... i tried the trick on my way home via my phone .. GOT THE GOOD POP UP YEAH!!!!!

I just finished mine too and i was scared to try the "trick" but i got the courage up and tried and got the good pop up. i was kind of skeptical at first but if you think about it ... it makes logical sense.. it is a computer system and it only makes sense that it wont let you pay for a test that you dont need to retake... luckily i live in a state that participates in quick results so i wont have long to wait to find out.... good luck to everyone else

I JUST WANT TO WISH EVERYONE GOOD LUCK. YOU WORKED REALLY HARD TO GET TO THIS POINT AND YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELVES! I AM PERSONALLY A NERVOUS WRECK I TAKE THE TEST IN 8 HOURS AND I CANT SLEEP!!!!!

We are lucky. In my program there is a standard policy for challenging exam questions. As long as your rationale comes from a reputable up to date source you are given credit for your answer. There have been several times that I have done this and received credit everytime, and I know plenty of other classmates that have too. It really is a shame that some of you are in programs where the ego of the instructor takes prescidence over what is fair and right.

I just want to thank you all for your kind words of understanding and encouragement, and most of all your must needed advice. So I decided to take it easy and just give my self a break. The result: I got a B on my last exam, but it most assuredly did not kill me or my GPA. lol !!!! So now when I get home, instead of cracking open a book, I turn on spongebob for a while and do absolutely nothing.....

I am about 5 months away from completing my program and everyday I have to force myself to go to class/clinicals. I have maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA through my entire program and I really think the stress of maintaining that has finally gotten to me. The thing is, I really want to be a nurse more than anything and I love helping people. I am not just sure I will make it through the rest of the program with my sanity intact. I am also afraid to take a rotation off because I think that when you leave things in general, the longer you are away the harder it is to go back. I just don't know what to do. It is impossible to talk to classmates because as far as they are concerned I am doing well while a lot of them are struggling so in their view I have nothing to complain about. Friends and family outside of school are no help because they can't begin to understand how stressful nursing school really is. It is so bad that I honestly end up in tears some days. I really am at a loss as to what to do so that I can get through this. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well I aced pharm while taking 4 other classes so here are a few tips on how I did it and maybe something in it will help you. 1. Focus on drug classes. Not indidvidual drugs. You will drive yourself crazy otherwise. If you focus on the class and then realize that drugs in this class are all very similar it is then easier to just remember the drugs in that class that dont follow the norm 2. Get a good drug guide. I used mosebys drug guide for nurses. It is great because it has nursing interventions and actions. 3. When you study dont try to memorize the information. I found it much more useful to instead relate the drugs to what they treat and how they do it. That makes it more real and thereby easier to learn since you are relating it to real life. My final suggestion is to relax. Panic is the enemy! ! Especially in nursing school. 10 weeks is enough time to get yourself together and focus. I really wish you luck and I hope this helps

First of all don't panic. You have to stay calm. In my experiece it is usually the style of the questions, not the content that gets people. You have to take these tests a very specific way. If you break the questions down the right way most times you can get to the right answer, even if they throw in minute details to try to throw you off track I would be more than happy to help you if you like.
