Baylor/Weekend Only Program
I am looking into possibly switching to the Weekend program at work. I currently work 36 hours a week (3 twelve's) with alternating weekends (Saturday and Sunday). I have only been an RN for 10 months now, but I have a 5 year old who is currently in daycare who will be starting kindergarten in the Fall, and a 4 year old that is also in daycare as well. My husband works 40 hours a week, but he is in a union (Heinz Factory) that can switch his shifts at will, and he is only give 1 days notice (or previous shift) of when he is going to work; so you can see how this is problematic and stressful for us in terms of childcare. What are your thoughts on the weekend (Baylor) program as a nurse? Pros? Cons? All feedback is appreciated:)

Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2010
there is nothing wrong with being a little neurotic when it comes to school! I did the same thing, and now I'll be starting in the fall, so I guess it didn't hurt!

UPMC Shadyside 2010 hopefuls
Hi, I received my acceptance pack in the mail, and yes, the tuition DID go up. The new Tuition Frgiveness price is $12,800 for two years, so it would be $6400 a year, and then they have a break down per semester. They also have changed the qualifications for Tuition Forgiveness. Now, you must complete a FAFSA and your expected familiy contribution (EFC) MUST be $2000 or less to qualify. Otherwise, you will be responsible for the full amount [around $32,000] for two years. Hope this helps!

Was it sent certified mail? I got a pink slip in my mailbox yesterday for a missed letter...I am assuming that is probably it.

CCAC vs. UPMC Mercy comparison?
I am really, really sorry for not responding earlier! I hope by now you have found out if you were accepted to Mercy or not! I didn't have to meet with them. I took the PSB in late November, and I received my acceptance letter in February, as they said they were meeting in January to review applications. I know they have a rolling admission, so they most likely meet periodically for review of applicants. Please let me know if you decided on CCAC or Mercy:)

If they are thinking about increasing the tuition for the Fall class, then how can we know what the Tuition will be, or if there will be Tuition Forgiveness at all? When I went to the information session in October, I was told that the student contribution with TF would be $10000, but there was a possibility that it might go up. Mercy does indeed have a simulation lab, but it is not as advanced as the Shadyside one, I"ll admit. It isn't in a separate building or anything. I think Nursing School is what you make of it for the most part, and it depends on the student and what they prefer and how they learn which determines success.

Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2010
Hi Annie. I wanted to let you know that I created a Facebook page for Mercy SON class of 2012. Feel free to add it if you want, and tell anyone else you know that is starting this past Spring or upcoming Fall. Shadyside has alot of members, and I think it's time that Mercy appropriately represents!

UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing '09'
Wow, I had no idea that they were thinking about doing this! I applied for Spring, but got put on the waiting list for Fall 2010. I still haven't heard back from Shadyside either way. I was told in Oct. that the tuition would be $10,000 for the entire program. I don't think it would be fair to change the tuition for people who have already applied to the school. They should wait until the next class (Spring 2011) at least, so those who have already applied aren't victims of "bait and switch". Because honestly, it DOES make a huge difference in their applicant pool if there is no tuition forgiveness program. I sure am glad that I also applied to Mercy...I already found out I was accepted for Fall, and I am certain that their tuition forgiveness program won't be changing this year!

Wow, how did you already have those things done?

Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2010
I am glad to see someone who is also starting at Mercy in the Fall! I applied to Shadyside and Mercy, and I made the decision to attend Mercy based on mamy personal factors. I know Shadyside is viewed as the better school, but I am sure I will receive a great education at Mercy! There are so many things I have to do, like my background clearances, CPR training and physical exam. How is the process going for you? Are you going to be a full time student?

Hi, I didn't receive notice either way from Shadyside. I have decided to attend Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, anyhow. I start in August!
