UofA MEPN 2021

Published

Hi there. I am applying for the UofA MEPN 2021 program this Fall, and thought I'd open up this thread for others also applying at this time.

A little about me - I was originally going to apply for the 2020 program, but delayed it a year due to the birth of my youngest in late 2019. I have quite a bit of healthcare experience before the birth of my children, as well as volunteer experience in other areas. I haven't taken the HESI yet, but my stats are 3.5 (last 60), and 3.8 (prerequisites). I have a Bachelors degree in Biology, and am *really* hopeful to make it into this MEPN program. My goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner ? One of my aspirations is to serve impoverished communities in third world countries.

Would love to hear from others, and open up dialogue regarding questions and general advice.

Best of luck to all the 2021 candidates!

Specializes in RDH to RN.

the only prereq I don't have is chm 152. Taking it online is extremely difficult. ?

Aww man I am sorry to hear that! I bet taking 152 is hard in general but online must be a killer! IDK where you are taking it but the UofA has some great resources for tutoring like the Think Tank but IDK how they are since COVID. Wishing you luck!

Which campus is everyone hoping to attend? How are your applications coming along? I am almost done with mine, and hoping to be accepted into the Phoenix cohort.

Tucson; my husband and I own a house here. Last year I was waitlisted and got "off" and into the Phx location but had to turn that down because of the house situation. More people generally want Tucson.

My app luckily is mostly the same as last year; I just have to retake the HESI and am obviously procrastinating LOL...ugh!

Hoping for the Tucson campus but will take either. Still working on my application. I just got confirmation that they received my transcripts, now I just gotta go input all my classes.

Haha, I don't blame you ... the HESI is soooo long! When I took mine, I had some crazy technical difficulties, so I was in a bad mood when I started, and then I got really hungry about halfway through, LOL. It's nice that you don't have to re-do your entire application! Did you ever figure out where the GPA calculations were located in NursingCAS?

Oh! Question for you - I assume you took the HESI at home in the new system for COVID - what is that like? How is it proctored? (When I took it last year, I didn't remember it being that long, but it probably was haha) I am worried about technical issues because my internet has been going out for a few mins constantly throughout the day.

I don't think it's in CAS; we just have to calculate it ourselves ?

I took the HESI at home and for me it was kinda stressful because of the bad internet and people at my house are loud. So the proctor always had to tell me to tell the people to be quiet. Which was hard because you can’t leave your seat. Also it was difficult for me because for the Math portion I used scratch paper and the proctor always had to remind me to stay on the camera. Even tho I was just leaning towards my right to try to figure out equations and what not. So definitely have your scratch paper in front of you!

Thanks for the insight! I wasn't sure if an actual proctor is watching the whole time! wow.

So they watch you. The. Entire. Time. Kinda weird at first, but after getting into the test a bit, you forget that they're there. My proctor was nice, but a bit difficult to understand, so between that and all the computer difficulties, I was not in the best mood, LOL. Is there any way you can resolve the technical issues before taking the test?

Sorry to hear that it was stressful! You did very well, despite the distractions! How is your application coming along?

How did you all get the Voucher code for Examity? I am getting the run-around on how to schedule my HESI
