UofA MEPN 2021

Published

Hi there. I am applying for the UofA MEPN 2021 program this Fall, and thought I'd open up this thread for others also applying at this time.

A little about me - I was originally going to apply for the 2020 program, but delayed it a year due to the birth of my youngest in late 2019. I have quite a bit of healthcare experience before the birth of my children, as well as volunteer experience in other areas. I haven't taken the HESI yet, but my stats are 3.5 (last 60), and 3.8 (prerequisites). I have a Bachelors degree in Biology, and am *really* hopeful to make it into this MEPN program. My goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner ? One of my aspirations is to serve impoverished communities in third world countries.

Would love to hear from others, and open up dialogue regarding questions and general advice.

Best of luck to all the 2021 candidates!

Thank you! I definitely will keep you updated I just emailed and got an automatic response he’s out until Tuesday, but I will post as soon as I know ?

well, CastleBranch has the order for the drug test automatically "printed" and I had no issues when I went to labcorp and did the urine test. My results aren't in the system yet though.

Okay perfect thank you! The one closest to me only does urine testing so I just wanted to double check before I scheduled my appointment, I didn't want to waste my time and end up having to go somewhere else, and I didn't want to drive 30+ minutes to one that does everything if I didn't have to haha!

Also side note.. Has anyone's official transcripts been transferred over yet in the gradapp? I can't access the OSHA/HIPAA classes and was told it's because I am still an "admit" and that will change once the officials are sent and reviewed. So I reached out to CON last week and they confirmed they were sending them but didn't say when. So I am just wondering if anyone's have been sent or if we are all in the same boat?

Hi yall, I decided to make a Discord server for us to use - I did this because it's SUPER useful if you've never used one before because all the different questions and conversations are categorized - so like if someone asks a question about uniforms, it's easier to find if you have the same question a week later.

(The current students use Slack, and Discord is extremely similar; one of the students set up their slack, so I decided to make one for us!)

Please join me at the link below! Both Phx and Tucson I think should be on there because we can use this throughout our program (adding more channels for separate topics throughout our time; I already made several channels, including a separate one for Phx and Tucson specific conversations)

https://discord.gg/RD7WtQj7

Let me know if you have questions! It takes just a tiny bit of time to get used to the format, but I think it's pretty easy and useful! (Link will expire in 7 days because I don't want a bunch of people who aren't part of our class to join in on us)

@teensie thanks for doing that! Downloading now

Does anyone know how picky they will be about purchasing the scrub bottoms directly through the bookstore? I would prefer my scrubs to actually fit and the ones from the bookstore are terrible LOL? Thanks for any input!

Hey all,

I was intending to apply this Fall, but after reading this thread I feel like I possibly don't even have a chance.

My cum GPA is 3.3 ish, prereq GPA is about 3.35

I got a 95 on the HESI

I have about 100 hours volunteering

about 4700 hours working in healthcare (as a phleb and clinical tech)

My GPAs are obviously so low that I'm pretty much taking a gamble and hoping my experiences and HESI score will at least get me an interview

Should I talk to an advisor, or honestly just give it to me straight, am I being dumb to think I have a chance? I could re-take a few prereqs to bring up my prereq GPA but in order to bring up my cGPA I'd have to take about 4-5 more classes on top of working full time and even then it won't get past 3.4-3.5 by the time I can apply for next year.

Uh wow, other thank your GPA, you have awesome stuff going on. My cumulative GPA was under 3.5 I think, but I got an interview the first time I applied and got in my 2nd try.

I would DEF meet with an advisor and get their opinion on your application. Also, Rio Salado is a great option if you do need to retake some classes - it's cheap, and you can take classes online either 8 week or 16 weeks. (I did 8 week while working full time)

Hello!

First let me say that you aren't dumb to think you have a chance! Many of us (if not all) felt the same way while we were in the application process. Personally, I had a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 4.0 pre req and got a 90 on my HESI with no volunteering. I was waitlisted but still got in! There are so many variables.

The best advice I can give is to just apply! Your GPA's might be a bit low but you have some good experience that will serve you well. It is so important to talk to the advisors, they are SO knowledgeable and they will be able to sit down with you and answer any and all questions you might have. The nice thing is that if you don't get in this time, you can meet with an advisor and they'll tell you what happened and what you need to improve for the next application.

GOOD LUCK!! :)

Hello,

Everyone I wanted to know how did you pass pathophysiology class in the program?
