Hi there. I am applying for the UofA MEPN 2021 program this Fall, and thought I'd open up this thread for others also applying at this time.
A little about me - I was originally going to apply for the 2020 program, but delayed it a year due to the birth of my youngest in late 2019. I have quite a bit of healthcare experience before the birth of my children, as well as volunteer experience in other areas. I haven't taken the HESI yet, but my stats are 3.5 (last 60), and 3.8 (prerequisites). I have a Bachelors degree in Biology, and am *really* hopeful to make it into this MEPN program. My goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner ? One of my aspirations is to serve impoverished communities in third world countries.
Would love to hear from others, and open up dialogue regarding questions and general advice.
Best of luck to all the 2021 candidates!

Hello there! I am also applying for the UofA MEPN program in 2021 and have similar goals! Did you take the HESI yet?
I haven't taken it yet, but planning to within the next few weeks. Have you taken the HESI yet?
I haven’t taken either. I am waiting until they open the testing center in Tucson.

You know that they changed it up this year so that you can take the HESI at home with the online proctor, right? I just don't know when the test centers will actually be open
I applied in the 2020 cycle, but will be reapplying this year; I am very curious how COVID will impact the number of applicants...
And, as a note about me, I was waitlisted and eventually got off the waitlist and into the Phx cohort, but since my husband and I own a house in Tucson, it didn't make sense to be in the Phx group :/
Yep, teensie, you are right about the HESI. ANWong, if you go onto the UA MEPN site, you can view the directions for taking the HESI via online proctoring.
Teensie, if you don't mind sharing, what were your stats (GPAs, HESI, etc.) when you applied last year? With how competitive this program is, wondering how likely acceptance will be for me with my stats ... ?
Unfortunately, I am not sure what my GPA was per their re-calculations...I went ahead and just asked for that from the advisor, so I will report back.
93.5 on the HESI.
According to one of the advisors when I got feedback, my GPA really held me back the most. My HESI was 0.5 above the average of everyone who got in. My volunteer experience was at the maximum. My interview was an 85, I assume out of 100. The advisor recommended I retake one or two 4 unit classes which would boost my GPA (because I have a B instead of an A in 3 of the pre-reqs). I am retaking 1 of them...sort of wish I had time to retake 2 now in hindsight. Crossing my fingers and hoping I ace the HESI.
Oh WOW! thank you for the help I will take it through proctor!
I wonder how they will conduct interviews this round due to Covid.
Do they also only look at the last 60 units or do they look at cumulative GPA?

Teensie, I am sure you will do great on the HESI! Crossing my fingers for you.
Shouldn't the GPA calculations from CASPA be the same as what we calculate for ourselves? Do they calculate the GPA in a different way? ?

The GPA calculations are from the last 60 credits taken and from the required prerequisites. With the prerequisites (not the last 60), they only take the highest grade (if classes were repeated for better grades).
I was also wondering about interviews with the Covid situation. I think interviews are normally conducted in February ... hoping that life will resume to normal by then!
I just asked a friend of mine who interviewed for the Fall BSN program and she said that they had to send in a video. So it might be that if the situation does not improve or maybe even a zoom call.
