UNLV SON Fall 2016

Nursing Students General Students

Hi all! I would like to start a forum for all the UNLV students who are applying for the Fall 2016 semester into the SON. Here we can all discuss and share each others' information, concerns, and anything else regarding the fall admission. Deadline to apply is July 1, 2016. So where is everyone at now?

Hello everyone! Hope your summers are going well! I got a 93 on the HESI and I also did not study all that much, what really did help is the elsevier blue book and based my studying off of that book! Also the test is pretty straight forward, the biggest thing is to not overthink! I have an overall score of 92.19 and hopefully the cutoff isnt going to be as high as this summer's cohort.. I'm hoping for the best and hopefully we can all get in this cohort together (:

AWESOME JOB! i'll take your advice regarding the elsevier book thank you!

The recommended Elsevier purple book is a good guide for studying reading comp, math, and grammar. The A&P section was overly broad, but the practice questions were useful. Skimming over both 223/224 lab manuals should suffice for A&P review. A lot of the A&P questions were broad and superficial. I honestly felt that it was a lot of recall, considering that we were tested on this material before. There was around five specific questions asking for either a small important fact (function/category) or had an unfamiliar name that may have been skimmed over in both courses. Deductive reasoning is the go-to for the more difficult questions. The yellow monometrix guide was useful, but there was extra content that did not correlate with this version of the hesi. This was evident with the math section that rehashed math 120 curriculum (majority of the content was not asked on the exam). Im guesstimating that the cutoff will be similar to this summer's 92.04. The advising team is pushing the memo for all applicants to be optimally above that. Also, new SON policy limits each candidate to a maximum of 2 application attempts. I have plenty of peers putting off applying till spring because of this. The SON is making it much more competitive.

Hi guys! My signing session is on the very last day. For those who have already had one, did they imply how many applicants they have for this semester? It seems like this forum is kind of dead and not many people know about it, which kind of gives me hope that there will be more spots open. Idk

Martin how did the hesi go

I did fairly well. But I am retaking for a higher score to advance my overall points when I apply. I scored a 92% on it

98 - Math

94 - Grammar

88 - A&P

86 - Reading

I am positive my second time taking it I should score higher. The reading comprehension part was ok... I scored lowest on word meaning. I studied so much for A&P but I still received an 88

Awesome job bud. Can't wait for the madness to get started .

Hi everyone! I spoke to my counselor at UNLV, Mr. Wayne, and he informed me of the new policies for the nursing program. It is true that we are only allowed to apply to the program twice now, and he also said that the minimum points we can get on the calculation sheet is 88. Anything below that.. they will not accept. He also mentioned that they take the highest hesi scores first? I'm a bit confused as to what he meant by that because I thought our overall scores on the calculation sheet is what they used to determine if we get in or not. I mean, someone with a high hesi score could still get a lower amount of points on their calculation sheet depending on what they got in their science classes. I know some people who did better than I did on the hesi (my overall was 90), yet I still have more points on my calculation sheet because they got B's in some of their science classes.

Anyways, seems like all of you are doing exceptionally well and will most definitely get accepted!

I'm sure he meant for those that took the HESI twice, they look at the highest score they got when calculating their score.

Since this thread seems so quiet, maybe a lot of people didn't apply for fall. If that's the case then Good luck everyone on getting accepted. Also if anyone gets the first acceptance call plz let us know ty

Does anyone know when theyll be calling us?? Or has anyone recieved one? Usually call around this time... So nervous here haha

Not sure. My guess is that they'll either start calls tomorrow or on Monday.
