UNLV SON Fall 2016

Published

Hi all! I would like to start a forum for all the UNLV students who are applying for the Fall 2016 semester into the SON. Here we can all discuss and share each others' information, concerns, and anything else regarding the fall admission. Deadline to apply is July 1, 2016. So where is everyone at now?

Hey everyone! I just had my signing session this week and only 5 other girls were there, she didn't say how many people were applying but she did say that in the past almost every signing session was full! They dont calculate your points for you at the appointment, you have to do that yourself if you are curious. We just turned in our applications and signed some paperwork, it was simple. I took the HESI in April and got a 93% overall, a 96% on the A/P and a 92% for each other section. My total points are 93.7. I'm going to be a nervous wreck this whole month!

Hi everyone!

When I took my HESI, I had 30 A&P questions, and then 55 questions each in math, grammar, and comprehension. I scored a 94.5 in total. I have already completed my signing session. There were 9 of us there. They did not calculate our scores. Also, you do not have to have completed your HESI by your signing session date. If you did not have your scores or other college transcripts at the session, they request that you bring them before July 1st to the nursing advising office in the BHS. July 1-15 is when they will calculate our scores. They will call all who made it into the program, and those who did not make it will receive a mailed letter. They will not inform us of our official application scores. However, you can use this to help you gauge where you are at: https://www.unlv.edu/sites/default/files/page_files/27/Nursing-CalculationWorksheet.pdf . Talking around, people in my session seemed to have scored in the low 90s on their HESI and low 90s when they calculated their application scores.

Hey everyone,

I took my HESI already. There were 30 A&P questions, and there were 55 questions each in math, grammar, and comprehension. I scored a 94.5 in total. I have already had my signing session. There were 9 of us there. You do not need to have completed your HESI to have a signing session. If you do not have your HESI scores or official transcripts from other schools, they request that you bring them before July 1st to the nursing advising center in the BHS. They will contact all who made it into the program via phone call, those who did not make it will receive a mailed letter. They will not calculate your official application scores at the signing session, nor will they tell you them over the phone. However, you can use this link to the calculation worksheet to gauge where you are: https://www.unlv.edu/sites/default/files/page_files/27/Nursing-CalculationWorksheet.pdf. People at my signing session had low 90s for their HESI and low 90s for their application scores. I have a score of 98 when I used the worksheet.

Hi guys I'm new to unlv and won't be applying until next year probably. I am just curious how points are calculated? Say you have 4.0 in prereqs and 90 on HESI what would those points be? ...I DON'T have these scores lol I'm just trying to make calculations easier

Print the point sheet from this link and calculate. It's very simple and easy to do.

Out of curiosity, I have a question for those of you who have already taken the HESI A2 exam. What topic/s do you wish you had studied harder before you took the exam? I'm hoping to apply to UNLV SON in the Spring.

Hello everyone! I completed my HESI on June 14. I got an overall 91%. The test was not as hard as I thought. My overall points are 91.6 and my signing session is on Friday. I am feeling anxious because I am not sure if my points will be enough. How is everyone else doing/feeling?

Hi medulla, you did awesome on the exam. I honestly can't wait for fall to start. Trying to be proactive yet everywhere I'm reading that it's gonna be so hectic and that we should be enjoying the time we have right now.

Hi guys!

The HESI was 55 questions for math, reading, and grammar. A&P had about 30. However, the final scores are deducted to a value of less than five considering the difficulty of each question e.g. 46/50 and 24/25. Completing it felt like a breeze and it got boring towards the end. I crammed for two days and still got a 94.5.

Im currently sitting at a 95.84 for admission points. Anyone else impatiently waiting for that call?

AWESOME SCORES GUYS! !! Any recommendation on how to prepare for the HESI?

Just took a practice exam from McGraw-Hill's book without much studying and got a 92. I'll be studying much more the next few nights since I need a higher score than that. To those that took the HESI and did M-H's practice exams, do you think the practice exams were reflective of the difficulty level of the actual HESI exam?.. Or was one more difficult than the other? I thought the practice A&P questions were broad and simple, but I've heard from people that they throw in a few specifics in the actual exam. Good luck, everyone!!
