Hello everyone,
who is preparing to apply for the UW ABSN program? Applications start on August 2018 and school starts on June 18th 2019. I was informed I have to do the prerequisites so I decided to that in a local community college. Any body having hard time or on the track of doing their prereq??
All feedbacks welcome, and any kind of helpful hints that has helped you!
Thank you!
Hi there, I am applying to the 2020 ABSN program, but I thought I'd hop on this thread and ask a quick question. If you are a native English speaker, do you still have to provide proof of English Language proficiency? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I couldn't find a clear answer on the website.
Thanks in advance!
Dani
Hi! I am also applying to ABSN, reading these past threads always gives me butterflies. All the best to everyone trying to be a nurse!
My stats:
Undergrad: 3.22 in Art History (did not know what I was doing)
Prereqs: 3.8
I have 500+ volunteer hours as a full-spectrum doula and co-coordinator of the postpartum doula program at SF General, 100+ at Stanford's children hospital, worked/volunteer at OT/Speech/PT Pediatric Center helping a majority of Medi-Cal patients get outpatient treatment. Have done 1000+ hours for in-home care taking for children with severe autism and developmental disabilities.
Honestly, it seems like a lot of people have such amazing backgrounds and will still get denied but it seems it is really how you sell it on your resume and application that gives applicants a voice of being the difference.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the schedule will be like? I heard that past cohorts went to class Monday through Thursday, but I’d imagine it’s different this year. Anyone know yet?
thanks!
We have class or clinical or lab every day (at least for this first quarter). Friday is a short day but the rest of the days are long.

I graduated in August 2019 from the 5 quarter ABSN program - you will need to be available 7 days a week to complete this program, especially now that it is only 4 quarters. For our program first 2 quarters were up to 5 days per week, winter quarter included saturdays, spring quarter was 5 days per week and then senior practicum (summer quarter) we worked our nurses schedules plus had class on tuesdays, so you need to be available all 7 days. I hope this helps!

Marin,
I just graduated from the ABSN program and would say that it isn't so much about your GPA or hours of experience - though the average pre-req is somewhere in the 3.7 or higher range usually and the volunteer hours is usually in the 650 range. Having said that it is more about what you do with this experience and how you articulate what you know about nursing from these experiences and what you learned from it. Good luck!

Thank you, that is about what I was expecting. I’m up for it!

Yes, it does! Thank you. It’s what I expected, especially since it’s only 4 quarters. I’m ready to devote my life to it for a year!
Hello! I was accepted to the ABSN cohort for 2020-2021, and I was wondering, how's it going for current students? How has the program changed for you since the Covid pandemic started?
As a separate question, is anyone working part-time while in the program? I'm figuring out financial aid, and wondering if it's possible to work some, to help out with living expenses.

Hi there, have you heard anything about how the program has changed? Is it all online?

It's been a while since I've sent out any WL updates and unfortunately, there is still no news to share. I'm honestly pretty surprised at the lack of movement this year as we'd typically be 20 or so deep by now. Rest assured, I will notify EVERYONE as soon as something happens.
