University of Washington (UW) - Summer 2019 ABSN

Published

Hello everyone,

who is preparing to apply for the UW ABSN program? Applications start on August 2018 and school starts on June 18th 2019. I was informed I have to do the prerequisites so I decided to that in a local community college. Any body having hard time or on the track of doing their prereq??

All feedbacks welcome, and any kind of helpful hints that has helped you!

Thank you!

For all who weren't accepted: don't give up! Here are my stats if that helps:

Undergrad gpa: 3.3

Prerequisite gpa: ~3.5

2000 CNA hours

1500 social services assistant hours

60 volunteer hours

I also followed the advice of the admissions committee to a T...have you all listened to their recordings on the website regarding the application?

Good luck!!!

I did not get an email or phone call, I don't know if I was rejected or accepted.

I was also accepted for the Fall 2019 start. Here are my stats:

Undergrad GPA: 3.3

Prerequisite GPA: 4.0 (physiology & ochem are in progress)

Proctored exam: pretty weak essay, but got all the calculation questions right

Resume: ended up with a 3 page resume trying to really flesh out each experience

Letter of Rec: from a charge nurse at my facility

~900 CNA hours at the time of application at a pediatric SNF; 1000+ total hours when considering CNA class clinicals

Thanks for sharing your stats every one! You all have high scores!! Would any one be comfortable sharing a winning personal statement?

bee08: that's hopeful! I'll try again. what do you think was wrong with your last application? I'm trying to understand where I went wrong besides my low cumulative GPA.

Amelie,

I'd rather not share mine, but I'd be happy to give you some pointers on your essay!

hello everyone! I'm a bit late to this thread but have also been accepted for the 2019 ABSN cohort!!

Are there any current UW students on here who would be willing to share their experience in the program? I'm currently trying to decide between a couple different schools and honestly haven't heard the greatest things about UW (granted this was from a couple students who attended a few years ago so things may be different now).

Has anyone started the post-bac program application process? Is this more of a formality or have any of you heard of people actually not being accepted to the post-bac program?

I just completed mine. I also called admissions and they said you MUST send all your transcripts to the University (Schmitz Hall 1410 NE Campus Parkway Box 355852 Seattle, WA 98195-5852) even though we submitted them electronically for the ABSN application.

I was told on the day of the proctored essay that once you are admitted to the ABSN program, your chance of being admitted into UW is 99%. They probably just want to see your transcripts to see if everything checks off.

I am so excited to be accepted into the program! Here are my stats:

Undergraduate degree: BA in Gender Studies from UCLA

Cumulative GPA: 3.5 (Would have been higher if I hadn't had such horrible grades from my first year of college)

Prerequisites GPA: 4.0 (I took 17 prerequisite courses for various nursing programs, including pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical terminology... and was the top student in each course)

Healthcare experience:

~200 hours (Certified Nursing Assistant in LTC facility)

~70 hours (Patient Ambassador volunteer at a rural community hospital)

~75 hours (Birth Doula volunteer at a public hospital in Honduras)

~120 hours (Birth and Postpartum Doula experience)

~150 hours (Various community volunteer experiences, involving women's rights and agriculture)

Certifications/Licenses: (NAC, BLS Provider, HIV/AIDS Education Certificate, Child and Baby First Aid Provider, Lactation Education Counselor, Childbirth Doula)

My cumulative GPA and healthcare experience hours are not stellar but I believe my selling point was my diverse life experiences. I am in my late 20s and I backpacked/traveled to over 40 countries, lived in 4 countries, speak multiple languages, worked in various fields, am passionate about integrating human rights into my career, and now that I live in the countryside of Washington I really want to contribute more to rural healthcare. I genuinely want to be a compassionate healthcare professional and bring innovative radical ideas to the field, and I think that showed in my personal statement!

I am currently waitlisted but seems I have a good chance of getting in since I am less than #30 on the waitlist. For this program I would need to move up from San Diego and would need to find a place to live. I would prefer to live with fellow female students (since it’s unlikely I will be able to afford a place on my own lol) anyone know of any UW websites or pages where it might be easier to find such people to live with?

Hi nurslady182,

I will be moving to Seattle as well and would prefer to live with someone in my cohort as well. I was wondering if you found any resources that you were asking about!

Tricia

Hello @nurslady182 & @TrishVan7, a good resource is the "University of Washington (UW) Housing, Sublets & Roommates" group on Facebook if you're looking for affordable off-campus housing. ?

This is great! Thank you @b00p
