What is the min. GPA and NET scores that have been accepted in the past for the BSN program? If anyone has info? Thanks

I got my acceptance letter from UTHSC for the BACC2 program last week. Just so you know, it HAS to be the interview that really matters. I have an okay GPA (3.7 Prereq, 3.5 Sci), decent NET scores (90th Percentile), and some extra courses (med term, pharmaco, CNA) but no actual health care experience. However, my interview went really well, which was suprising even to me, and I got in.

I agree with you that the interview is a KEY component. I have an OK gpa (3.55 nursing pre-req and 3.65 science pre-req) but made a 98 percentile on the NET and felt like my interview went really well. I made SURE to be clear about why I wanted to be a nurse, why I wanted to go to UTHSC, and what I had done to prepare for the program. I think they were impressed that I was taking pharm and patho to prepare for the intensity of the bacc2 program even though it was not required. I laid it all out on the table and was not shy about promoting myself. I even suprised myself with the level of confidence I was able to project, because usually that is not the case. :)

Look forward to meeting you in class. I hear it is going to be a CRAZY 12 months. :nurse:

Congrats Becca and Brit - we are going to be classmates!!!! I am excited, anxious, nervous, etc.......

Becca, brit, and aggie...i'll be seeing you in May as well! I didn't get my letter until 4-7-08. I'm going down there tomorrow to talk with Fin Aid about my options. Look foward to meeting all 3 of you!

Have AIM, etc? I am nervous as hell about gettin' all my stuff together in such a short amount of time. If you'd like to talk, I'd be down. AIM = jerseyjert

Hey there! Congrats! I'd love to hear what financial aid tells you! I'm terrified that I'll miss something vital. I think it's pretty incredible that out of a class of 40, that 4 or 5 are posting on this board. :)

I'm interested in hearing what finaid says, too. I called last Friday and was told they haven't even downloaded the FAFSA information yet, which I'm guessing means they have not looked at our applications. I am concerned that we will not get our $ before school starts. Apparently there is some emergency tuition loan we can get from UT if that happens.

Dissector - So, how'd your meeting with FA go?

UT folks, check your status on UT Link and underneath where it says "You have been admitted to the program for term shown above" it should say "confirmation has been received that you plan to enroll". Apparently there was a hiccup with the paperwork and I got a call Friday from an advisor asking if I plan to enroll. They cashed my $50 check but did not note my intent to register in the system and so they thought I had not yet responded to the admissions offer! AHH! Fortunately it is all taken care of now. Just FYI!

Me too! I was accepted a few weeks ago! I am nervous and excited all at the same time! I hope I do well in the classes! CPR class is this Friday!

Dissector - So, how'd your meeting with FA go?

FA deals with all six UT schools in the med center, and let me tell you...they are unorganized, overworked, and not that helpful. I called and talked to someone telling them the reason why i wanted to set up a meeting, etc. and they said all was well and i could come up anytime. I came, to find out as much info as possible, and she saw me for like 3 minutes. She told me that the FAFSA was the only thing i needed to fill out at that point, and that i wouldn't hear from them for a few weeks about any FA i might receive. Well...exactly 4 days later i received a FA letter telling me that even though the FAFSA says that in a perfect world my EFC is 6000 and the cost of the program is 14,000...that i am not eligible for any government sponsored FA. If it were a masters programs, i would be. If nursing school was considered a professional school, like med school or law school, i would be eligible...but since it is just listed as another bachelors degree...i get NOTHING. So now i am scrambling to get info about the unsubsidized stafford loan, fill out the scholarship info on the SON website, and applying for private loans (which suck). Everyone keeps telling me this is "good debt" but i have trouble thinking that any debt is good debt, especially when i already have 30K from the first go around at college. I ended up walking over to the SON and the scholarship director told me more about my FA options than the FA lady did. Then i missed the CPR class because I got strep and was running a 102 fever; so i'll be at the May 9 class (which is cuttin' it close!). Any help ladies and gents? How is the process going for y'all?

Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time dealing with being sick and not so good news from FA. I've been calling trying to get info and they told me pretty much the same thing you heard which was I can drop in anytime to see my advisor. I filed my FAFSA and scholarship form way back in March and have not gotten any correspondence from FA about my status. Interesting that you already got a letter. I've called to ask when I will know anything and they said it will be a few more weeks. Was told that I may need to look into an emergency tuition loan from UT in case my finaid situation isn't figured out yet. Not too happy about that. I realize they process for many students at different schools but seems like they should have some sort of priority processing for those of us starting class in the summer.

Finishing up my CPR class this Monday and still need to see the DR to get signed off on my immunizations and physical, then I'm done. Ordered a few sets of scrubs and plan to go to the bookstore next week. Starting to get excited about school but still anxious about how the financial stuff will play out. Keep me updated.

Maybe my FA got looked into because I talked to both the FA advisor and the SON ppl? The scholarship lady @ the SON said emergency tuition loans were only for a few hundred dollars. I'm looking into unsubsidized stafford and the CAL loan; i have 2 of those applications started and will finish them tomorrow when i get my cosigners info. They said its really hectic because its not just the SON that's starting May 19; summer classes for all 6 schools start the same day. Maybe the FA dept is processing stuff in alpha order...i'm pretty close to the front. I have all my immunizations, just need to get the Dr. to sign off on them as well as get my physical. I'm doing the CPR on May 9. Everything else is in or on its way in. I am really worried about the money issue tho...i hope that i can get a loan approved on such short notice. *crosses fingers*

I got my letter from FA. I'm finishing up my immunizations this week and going to take CPR somewhere (since the certification I have isn't acceptable). Yuck! Then, I think I've got it all covered. Ms. Sturm (scholarship office) is really helpful!! Good luck to everyone!
