What is the min. GPA and NET scores that have been accepted in the past for the BSN program? If anyone has info? Thanks
Fellow UTHSC accelerated students: check your mailboxes! My acceptance package came today - woohooo!!!!
Congrats to everyone who got in!
Also, included in the packet was an offer to purchase supplies (scrubs, steth, lab coat, etc) in a specially priced bundle. It was a form with a place to circle size for scrubs. I'm really hesitant to commit to a size before trying them on tho. I also wonder if we have to buy the scrubs from the bookstore or if we can just look for the right color/brand at another store.
don't buy the package. go buy your scrubs (navy blue) on the cheap, there was a cheap scrub store next to majors on fannin. get the cargo-style pants, more pockets the better. go buy a steth that you like, you can pick bell/membrane vs. just membrane, color, weight. i never used my scissors once, and i never wore a lab coat either, you can get by fine without them. just get 3 pairs of scrubs, three patches, a steth, a penlight and a couple of small notebooks that fit in the pockets of the scrubs.
most hospitals have loaner steths (really poor quality but good to practice on) and patients on isolation have their own dedicated equipment
well, if you have health insurance, i would suggest them. the hep b series is expensive. you may have to just bite the bullet and get them at the clinic if you don't have insurance. there may be a doc-in-the-box that could offer some of them but you will need to do the footwork to get the info. if you have not had the hep b series, you need to do that one quickly. it takes almost a year to finish the cycle. you need to find out what the policy is about the program and the timing of hep b shots. i had done my years ago, so i had booster and then they checked my titers via blood work for all the shots i already had.
Anyone going to the CPR class at the school on Friday, April 25? I am registered for the free CPR class taught by the Junior League but I am debating on whether I should just bite the bullet and pay the $50 to get it over with at the school since the free class is 2 evenings long, 3 hrs each night and the one at the school is only 4 hrs.
shoes...they tell you the shoes must be white leather, non-marking soles. i bought in to that and had a pair of white k-swiss i used for the first two semesters. now, i just wear a pair of white-gray running shoes that are about 1/4 the weight and breathe much better. the reason for the white leather is that at first you will be cleaning fluids off of people, poop, gastric juices would likely stain something like mesh and cloth (not to mention seep through to your feet). it is good to have a pair of dedicated shoes that you can take off when you get home. you have no idea how dirty the floors are and what you may have stepped in, so a dedicated pair is good. as the semesters progress, you are less likely to do PCA work (also you know what you are doing) so the chances of getting body fluids all over you and your feet decreases. they also claim that if a needle fell on your foot, the leather would be better protection, i do not know about that but do not want to find out.
the shoes should have a back on them. no crocs, not at first anyway. i have seen professors jump on the students about their shoes so get the white leather shoes and use them for the summer and fall at least.
poboy,
I'm pretty sure interviewing is over for the 1 year and 2 year programs. I know they aren't likely to answer the phone right now as they are busy processing decisions so we can't really be sure. I don't know if they have finished making decisions or not either. I hope they aren't :-/

Hey all! I've also applied to the UT generic program for the fall 2008, I didn't receive an interview, but I know of a few here at my college that have, this sucks! I go online to check my status but all it says is "pending", I mean the 15th is next week already, when are they going to update the status? Have any of you guys had any "status" change?
