What is the min. GPA and NET scores that have been accepted in the past for the BSN program? If anyone has info? Thanks

Current UT accelerated students: lemonlime, horus, and others...

I was curious to know how many people failed out or dropped out of the program this year. I heard that something like 5 people were kicked out just recently but not sure how much truth there is to that so thought I'd ask. Any pitfalls to avoid? Other than the obvious of keeping up with massive reading, not missing clinicals, and following obvious rules, what are some reasons people have not made it through the program? I guess I thought everyone made it through but this recent rumor has me a bit concerned. Input appreciated.

well two were booted b/c of allegations of academic dishonesty. we lost a couple during OB/PEDs (one of the most difficult, unforgiving classes), one failed their drug calculation test (i understand that they should have offered remedation (sp?) not booted this person to the two year program), two switched to the two year program early in the process and one was kicked out once they realized she did not have her pre-reqs finished.

so the take away from this is:

Don't cheat

Bust your hump in ped/ob and expect no mercy from the teachers

make sure you know your drug calculations and put the answer in the correct place.

UTMB lost people too but i don't know the details except that ped/ob got several of them...

Well for the record, I'm in the general BSN program at UT Houston. That being said, I don't know that much about the bacc-2 program.

But from what I've heard, it seems like most of the people who have failed where the ones who didn't seek out help until it was too late. There is this lady, Dr. Selz, who's job is to help students out who are getting behind or in over their head. I forget what her job title is, but she is pretty amazing. If you are just feeling overwhelmed, she is great to go talk to. Or if you failed a test, she can help give you study tips and find you resources such as a tutor, if that becomes necessary.

The other pitfall is not leaning on the seniors. Get to know someone who has gone through the program before you and get their advice. Call them up when you feel lost or overwhelmed. Get their advice on how to make it through the bacc-2 program.

and then there is the obvious: don't miss clinical, don't skip class, don't cheat, don't cram for exams.

Congrats to all of you who got accepted!

I graduated from the UTHSC-Houston BSN-Gen in May 07 and now work in the Med Center. You guys hold a sweet-spot in my heart being from my old alma-mater! Get ready for the ride of your lives! Nursing school was scary, stressful and frustrating, but amazing and absolutely worth every minute! During your first semester, you'll eat, sleep, and breath nursing stuff. Try to always stay ahead of the game (do your best not to procrastinate, even though you're bound to fall prey to it!), and get on the good side of your professors and clinical instructors. You'll hear this one constantly... "BE FLEXIBLE!" However, remember to take time out for your families too because they will feel the stress almost as much as you will. It CAN be done and you guys will all do great! Best of luck, enjoy it because the next two years will fly by so fast your head will spin!

:yeah:

Proud UT grad, even prouder RN!

May 2007

I graduated from UT Med Center accelerated program. I had a masters degree in a non science field with a 3.67. My Net was 88% I think and my pre requsite nursing course GPA was a 4.0. I got into the program, finished will all A's and B's. I loved the program but you can't work, you have to devote at least 10 to 12 hours/day studying, 5 to 7 days a week depending on how quickly you grasp the material. You are tested every week on 300 pages of material and there isn't a whole lot of time to ask questions. The professors are fabulous, they bend over backwards to teach you and answer your questions and help you. This was probably one of the best programs I have ever been in and I have a lot of formal education!

MBARN -

Could you tell me a little bit more about your experience in UT-houston's accelerated program. I'm in the process of filling out my application and am deciding if I should apply to the accelerated program or the traditional one. They both end at the same time. Traditional is 4 semesters starting in the spring while as you know the accelerated starts in the summer and ends in the spring.

How manageable is the program with it being mostly online? Are clinicals one on one as I've read in this forum? Did you feel that you were able to learn all you needed with how fast-paced the program is? Any feedback you could provide would be most appreciated.

TO ALL -

Anyone out there, have any thoughts on the traditional program? Are you able to work at all while in the program? What is the student:instructor ratio for clinicals? How often are you on campus for classes?
