University of South Florida Accelerated BSN

Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!

Specializes in Critical Care - Adults, Peds & Neonates.
What kind of recording device did you use... I remember in my college days I used a poc recorder which was so sensitive the sound of writing was waaaay louder than the actual lecturer.

I use a digital recorder (Sony ICD-PX720) and I absolutely love it. I purchased it over a year ago at Best Buy (it can be purchased almost anywhere, though) when I took A&P II. I transfer all of my lectures to my computer and I either replay them from there with the Digital Voice Editor (lectures are awesome to go to sleep to....:D) or I download them to cds for my car (great for those early morning and late afternoon drives to and from Clinical..........:)).

Oh yeah, btw....I leave it in SP mode and with that, I can record up to 47 hours. (I've definitely almost reached that before transferring lectures). I can also put it in LP mode and record up to 280 hours.

Hey everyone! I just came across this website and am excited to hear some things about the accelerated program!! I got accepted into this falls accelerated program at USF too so I'm glad to see everyone has the same questions as I do!! :)

I got my first degree from USF so I've been here for a few years! As for out-of-towners and housing..

Village Oaks is nice (unfurnished)

then theres furnished "college style" -the province, college court, campus lodge, boardwalk, campus club

theres TONS of other places to live around here, soo many apartments! If anyone has any questions about the area definately feel free to ask me!

Hello S22006! Congrats on your acceptance! Village Oaks is a VERY nice place it seems. Are there any other places that are nice like that may be 10-20 mins away from the school? I would say private message me but there is a certain amount of posts you have to do to do that. Thanks

yeah I think it's 15 posts. CNA Sam I was looking at village oaks too. Guess we wont know how it is until we get there and see it. I'm gonna call places this weekend and make appointments. I have never rented an apartment in America so, not sure how the whole rentign process goes. Any one give me a heads up on what to expect? The usual process... also what is the average rent in Tampa? $500-$800? I'm still trying to figure out the cost of living down there in ratio to WA. Rent here is prob about $1000 is average

I'm actually moving into village oaks and it depends on the apartment you get..3 bedroom is about $400-500 per person + utilities.

Here's a link for some apartments around the USF area if you want some more ideas!

Lakeview oaks is also pretty nice, it is about the same as village oaks

USF is the type of area that if you drive down the street 2 minutes, you will find another apartment complex. I'm sure anyone looking will have a lot of luck finding something.

Also, has anyone taken the CPR course yet, if so how is it? I still need to do that and get one more vaccination (so many things in so little time!)

Also, I heard from someone in the regular nursing program that an Itouch is required? Is that true? Thanks! I look forward to meeting everyone on the 29th!

As for the renting process, it's pretty simple. Many places offer specials for renting such as money off the first month, or things like that if you sign a lease. There's generally a deposit that you put down as well before you move in. Usually in order to get an apartment you have to have someone make 2-3 times the monthly rent- (so in my roommates case, we had one of our parents sign a form). It's really self explanatory once you find places that you are interested in and you just sign a few forms and you're good to go!

Hey everyone!! After a hard and long decision process I have finally decided to go to USF's program :yeah:..Nothing like being down to the wire haha. I'm excited to meet everyone at our orientation in a few weeks! I've been looking at the ratings for the apartments around campus and like 90% have terrible ratings. I don't know if it is just because the only people who post are complainers or what...it kinda makes me wonder about the quality of those places though. I might look in New Tampa or South Tampa for apartments, but I'm not sure what to do. When I visited USF a few days ago they said that we would be at one hospital for our whole clinical experience, so that probably should be taken into consideration when finding a place to live. I can't believe how hectic the next month is gonna be :uhoh3:

Congrats pita16! My plan is to not live right by campus because of the reasons you gave... apartment ratings. We ALL will need to live in places we can study peacefully and remain sane for the next 16 months!

S22006, the ipod touch is required. It says in the email not to buy one until after orientation because they will talk about the specific one you might need. But I'm thinking if I get an Iphone that will be okay too (but I don't know).

If I knew how to make a facebook page for our class I would!

Oh and please don't forget the varicella part (#4) on the health form. I almost did! You still have to get either the titer or immunizations even if you have had chicken pox.

Yeah, I'm going to get my varicella vaccine on monday- the nurse said that since I already had chicken pox I only need to get one of the vaccines (whew) so then I'll be done with all of the vaccines/tb test health form things.

Then just need to do the CPR course or pay for it by orientation.

congrats to everypne who got in or decided to go! I'm excited to meet everyone on the 29/30th orientation!

Pita16 - I felt the same way,so I'm looking a bit further out from school. I agree, I wonder if the people who posted the bad reviews were just complainers or if its really that bad. I recently just lost my dog and was hoping to live somewhere I could get a puppy, but I'm not sure if that would be fair to them with our schedule.

S22006 -

The CPR class that I took was no big deal. I did it during my CNA class. I think they do it by video these days. It was maybe 4 hours, I can't remember. It has to be for BLS from American Heart Ass. Yeah I had to redo the Tdap shot, I had the td, but not the P so had to redo it. My arm was super sore after, had a hard time liftign it up. Better safe than sorry eh?

Are you guys thinking about getting the Hep A shot? I'm still mulling it over.

Sunflower19-

I went to the CON and they said to get HEP A so I just went ahead and did so

Sunflower19-

Sorry, I can't send messages yet (haven't hit 15 posts).

But I went to the college of nursing (CON) last week and asked about the optional part of Hep A and I spoke to the advisor and she said I needed to get it, so I just did to be safe! Better safe than sorry!! :nurse:
