Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!

Specializes in Peds OR as RN, Peds ENT as NP.

Well I will definitely see you on the 21st! Im pretty sure we can wear whatever we want to the orientations. If it turns out we just need an Ipod touch or that we can use an Iphone I will just cancel my Blackberry contract.

Does it have to be an Ipod touch or can it be like a blackberry phone or iphone with apps?

You can use whatever you wish, so long as the phone or PDA is compatible w/ the nursing software you will be required to buy and download. Initially, I used a brand new Palm TX; even thought about using my Palm Pre Plus. I gave in and purchased an iPod Touch, eventually....it's just easier since most folks use those/they typically only provide instructions for the Touch. HTH. :) (As an FYI, blackberries don't typically work all that well. Epocrates and Nursing Central software work fairly well w/ Palm products).

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted and to those on to those on the waiting list!!!

Does anyone know what we are supposed to wear to the orientations? Like to we have to dress up or anything?

I wore jeans, sandals and a cute top...;) I spent several years in suits, not looking to go back to that while I'm in the Program. 90% of those attending the Orientation wore the same. A few dressed up.

Thanks for the info! I was not looking forward to suiting up, but was gonna pack some just in case. Looking oh so forward to the sunshine and beaches!!!! Has the BP oil spill affected the Tamapa Bay area?

Will we have to wear scrubs to class everyday?

No. Your white scrubs are required for Clinical and Lab only.

This summer, we have classes Monday and Thursday (8 - 6 pm), regular lab on Tuesday, Clinical on Wednesday (6:30 - 3:30pm) and a *free* day on Friday (I spend my Fridays studying ALL Day; I also tend to take advantage of Open lab on Fridays). I'm sort of jealous of your 16 week Fall semester. This summer we had 17 credits during a 10 week period. I love being back in school, full time, but umm...it has been *special*.....:lol2:

You're welcome, btw. :)

Lawyer Girl-

Thanks so much for all the heads up. I wonder how closely our class schedule will resemble yours... We'll find out soon enough I suppose. I heard from other nursing students that you have to study differently for nursing than normal courses, do you find that to be true? If so in what way is it different?

Are there rules about piercings, nail polish, or jewelery?

I'm so nervous and excited about starting school again and moving cross country. I hope to meet alot of cool people :D

Lawyer Girl-

Do you recommend that I bring my previous text books like for A&P and such or not necessary?

Sorry for so many question posts, I'm a HUGE worry wart!

No Worries. Like I just told someone in a PM, I like to help. :) It has been pretty crazy this summer, though. This is the first real opportunity I've had to come to this site and actually respond. :lol2: That changes today, though....back to the crazy, I go.....LOL! If you haven't taken Patho already (I hadn't), then more than likely you'll have 17 hours in the Fall (and then 22 hours in the Spring if you're 2nd degree). Honestly, I think those 6 extra weeks in the Fall will make a world of difference. You'll be fine. I had absolutely no health background and I think I had to study a lot more than others in the beginning.

I personally don't find the test questions to be all that tricky (at least not this semester), however the material they expect you to read and know for the exams is absolutely insane. I don't study any different than I did for the prereqs....in fact, I study "less", simply b/c I don't have the time to spend on each class like I used to (and I took Micro (10 weeks) and A&P II (6 weeks) w/ labs last summer together while working full time as a practicing attorney). Yes, the test Qs are completely different (they're application type questions), but at least for me, if I've studied enough and know the background, the application part is fairly straight forward. I tend to enjoy the classes that "make sense" more , though....Patho, Pharm and Assessment. Umm...the other class, not so much. BTW, I purchased all of the study guides that were recommended here, but they haven't really helped me at all. I stopped using them after Test #1 in my classes. My time is better spent reading and studying the material they assign for each test.

We have some really awesome professors this semester. I find most of them to be super smart and most are actually kinda cool outside of class. :yeah:

There are some rules about jewelry and the no. of earrings you can wear and the type (during Clinical and Lab - only a stud), but other than that, you can come to regular classes looking how you want to look. :D

I personally didn't like my A&P book,so I have not used that at all this semester, however, I have pulled out my A&P II recorded lectures and lecture notes for one or two Patho exams as our Patho professor can go a little fast....(and that's an understatement).....LOL! I love him, though. :) For PATs/Care Plans, I have used my Developmental Psych book a couple times (but that's only b/c I couldn't sell it back....LOL!) If I had sold it, I would have just looked up everything online.

HTH somewhat....off to study! :)

Oh yeah...I record EVERYTHING....and although at times (especially for those 3 hour classes), it's torture to play them back to fill in the gaps in my notes, I do. :lol2:

What kind of recording device did you use... I remember in my college days I used a poc recorder which was so sensitive the sound of writing was waaaay louder than the actual lecturer.

Sunflower19, Use a digital recorder. They are small, and you can record up to 11 hours or more. Walmart has some from $39 to $59.00. I am planning to record the lectures too, if permitted.
