University of San Francisco Fall 2015 BSN Program

Published

Hello everyone!

I created this thread for anyone who applied/applying/got accepted to USF BSN or program. If anyone has any insight, words of wisdom, or anything else that might be useful, it would be much appreciated. Here is a little info about myself to kick this off...

I am currently living in the SF bay area and Im finishing off a few courses before I transfer to a 4 year college next semester. I applied for USF's BSN fall 15 program and here are some of my STATS:

*Academics: I have a 3.8 in my prereqs and a 3.5 (overall) GPA.

*Experience/Volunteer Work: I am a Army veteran with 8 years of experience in health care. ( I have worked in the ICU & ER, at Brooke Army Medical Center for about 6 months. Went on several humanitarian missions which consisted of providing medical aid to rural communities in developing countries. I've also done a tour in Afghanistan, working in a combat support hospital.)

* Personal statement: Writing has never been my strong suit... :-/.. but I wrote it in story format (based on my deployment) and how the values of the military compliment USF's core values.

*Letter of Recommendation: My human anatomy instructor (PhD)

Lastly, I'll keep everyone posted on my application status if any future students want to use this thread as a point of reference.

(I submitted my application yesterday 1/15/15)

Good luck to everyone!!

Uhhh I'm pretty sure the amount of transfer applicants is 300? But idk. It's a highly rated nursing program and nursing is a popular profession. Unfortunately, 120 isn't much. Pretty sure at least a thousand applicants but probably more. I know a bunch of people at my tiny high school alone applying.

If you think about it in terms of a 20% acceptance rate with 120 spots, that would mean roughly a thousand applicants

Yeah you're right. That's rough but that's the norm with nursing programs.

So competitive! But USF is great since you're accepted directly into the nursing program, as opposed to public school program . They're still good, but you can be at the school for years as pre nursing without getting in.

If you get in you've hit the jackpot! :)

Have you guys heard anything?

Not yet! I think around the first and second week of March. I'm so nervous

No. I've heard that they let you know starting in march. Does that mean I should start compulsively checking my mailbox starting on the 1st? I'll probably do it regardless of any sound advice

Omg that's how I'm going to be. They also may send an email before the packet in the mail. I'll be refreshing my email 24/7 ugh lol

I got my packet in the mail before I got any email! I found an envelope that said "this is the news you've been waiting to hear" on the outside

I'm not sure if all the envelopes say that or just the accepted ones. It'd be pretty cruel to put that on the outside of a rejection letter. So look out for tha . That will make it slightly less terrifying when you get the letter!

Was it a large envelope?
