University of San Francisco Fall 2015 BSN Program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

I created this thread for anyone who applied/applying/got accepted to USF BSN or program. If anyone has any insight, words of wisdom, or anything else that might be useful, it would be much appreciated. Here is a little info about myself to kick this off...

I am currently living in the SF bay area and Im finishing off a few courses before I transfer to a 4 year college next semester. I applied for USF's BSN fall 15 program and here are some of my STATS:

*Academics: I have a 3.8 in my prereqs and a 3.5 (overall) GPA.

*Experience/Volunteer Work: I am a Army veteran with 8 years of experience in health care. ( I have worked in the ICU & ER, at Brooke Army Medical Center for about 6 months. Went on several humanitarian missions which consisted of providing medical aid to rural communities in developing countries. I've also done a tour in Afghanistan, working in a combat support hospital.)

* Personal statement: Writing has never been my strong suit... :-/.. but I wrote it in story format (based on my deployment) and how the values of the military compliment USF's core values.

*Letter of Recommendation: My human anatomy instructor (PhD)

Lastly, I'll keep everyone posted on my application status if any future students want to use this thread as a point of reference.

(I submitted my application yesterday 1/15/15)

Good luck to everyone!!

That's so funny because the same exact thing happened to me. First it was to someone else then I got one in my name. They just apologized and said that was completely separate from admissions. The other thing was for freshman applicants so as long as you did fafsa you're good!!

Oh okay. Phew. Another question...sorry haha.

Did anyone else apply through their website versus the common application?

I applied through their website and sent my essay separately in an email to the office of admissions. They sent me an email saying they would add it to my application as soon as possible. I'm wondering if it is supposed to be listed under the requirements section when I check my application status.

Is anyone's essay listed under the requirements section? Or is it just transcripts and the letter of recommendation?

Did that just post the exact same thing I said earlier? Lol whoops

I was saying that I also applied through the website and that the essay is not listed under the requirements in those boxes. You should just call and double check though because I was worried they weren't going to update my new transcripts since my app was moved from spring to fall but I called and she updated it right then saying they had gotten it.

Yup! Its always good to call and check. Personally I applied through the common app and that had an essay section in the application area.

As for the amount of transfer student accepted I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that when I toured the campus they said something like 120 people will be accepted into nursing (freshman and transfer).

I did the CSS profile, but I'm a high school senior. I didn't like that I had to do the CSS profile since you have to include both parents if they're divorced, even a noncustodial one. They just started doing the CSS this year. It wasn't actually too bad filling it out though.

PS the fact that you have an internship is excellent. They seem to really like medical related experience. I believe a great part of the reason I got accepted is because I had volunteer work, less my GPA.

Wow, 120? That's a lot. Did they happen to mention the average number of total applicants ?

Actually maybe it's not that much if that includes number of freshman admitted

I read on a website something about 300 applicants. I'm not sure if that's just transfer or what. I'll try to find the info again.

And if you think about it the freshmen are on a different clinical schedule than the transfers. That's where the problem with space is. We start clinicals spring 2016
