Hello everyone!
I created this thread for anyone who applied/applying/got accepted to USF BSN or program. If anyone has any insight, words of wisdom, or anything else that might be useful, it would be much appreciated. Here is a little info about myself to kick this off...
I am currently living in the SF bay area and Im finishing off a few courses before I transfer to a 4 year college next semester. I applied for USF's BSN fall 15 program and here are some of my STATS:
*Academics: I have a 3.8 in my prereqs and a 3.5 (overall) GPA.
*Experience/Volunteer Work: I am a Army veteran with 8 years of experience in health care. ( I have worked in the ICU & ER, at Brooke Army Medical Center for about 6 months. Went on several humanitarian missions which consisted of providing medical aid to rural communities in developing countries. I've also done a tour in Afghanistan, working in a combat support hospital.)
* Personal statement: Writing has never been my strong suit... :-/.. but I wrote it in story format (based on my deployment) and how the values of the military compliment USF's core values.
*Letter of Recommendation: My human anatomy instructor (PhD)
Lastly, I'll keep everyone posted on my application status if any future students want to use this thread as a point of reference.
(I submitted my application yesterday 1/15/15)
Good luck to everyone!!

Hi there! I applied early decision and got accepted to the bsn nursing fall 2015 program on December 23! My GPA was a 4.0 average from my four years of high school. 4.4 currently. Took 14 honors/ap classes over the last 4 years. (Currently a high school senior). 1940 SAT. I volunteer every week at the local hospital which I wrote my essay on. I made it evident in my personal statement just how much the hospital meant to me. Any idea how many people get accepted into the nursing program??
Is USF your top choice? I was so happy to be accepted! It has a great nursing program.

That's awesome you got in! I am a transfer student and actually applied for the spring. I never heard any sort of decision. I ended up calling and all they could tell me was there was no decision on my app but asked if I wanted it to be considered for fall and that I had a likely chance of getting in. I had it switched for the fall so yes I am applying as well. I never received a formal rejection letter for spring which was kind of frustrating but heard it was better to start in the fall anyway. I hope we hear back soon because the wait was awful during December. Good luck!!!
Wow! That seems totally stressful, but I think it actually is true that its better to start in the fall. Hope you hear back soon! It was really hard waiting for a response but luckily I got to know right before Christmas!
Thank you so much! That is so nice you found out. I have done some research and I think for the fall transfers we find out at the beginning of March. Its going to be a long month haha
Yeah the whole thing was very stressful! Its hard to find a lot of stats for USF nursing students. You could find the averages for USF but the nursing program is way harder to get in, so I had no idea if I had a shot or not!
I think you should apply. I can tell you my friend from school didn't get accepted for fall last year with a 3.2 gpa, minimal volunteer experience, etc. Then went to Peru for a volunteering project, wrote about it in her personal statement and how she's improved overall, has a 3.3 goa(which is still really low), and just got in for Spring. It's all so confusing how they decide.
Oh wait you did apply duh haha well good thing you got in
Yeah I think they like people with experience in unique settings. They're really into diversity there. What school are you transferring from, if you don't mind me asking?
From Chabot college have you heard of it? Yes I agree they do. I really hope I get in as it is my top choice. I applied to a few others though.
