Hello everyone, I just wanted to start this thread for anyone interesting or planning on applying to UM for spring 2015. I am finishing up the pre-requisites I need...doing micro class and lab. So far those are the only things I know I have to take. I'm extremely nervous, mainly because of the waiting game to see if I'm accepted or not.
I had to take over class, so I am not too happy about that either, so that also makes me a little down.
Also when I called the other day, someone said they are changing the application process, did anyone else hear that information?
Are you guys finish with all your pre-requisites?
Do you know how much repeating a class puts you in the hole for not getting accepted?
Hello everyone, and congrats to all of you that have been accepted to UM. As for me I have been accepted to both UM and MDC accelerated ADN, and Im not sure which school I should go with. I have always wanted to attend UM and have already paid close to 1k in deposits and security clearances, but mdc is so much cheaper and it just means that I have to stay an extra year for the BSN. My only hesitation is that ......well Im old and should really get all my schooling done asap, but the 40+ k is making me second guess myself. Anyone out there fall into this conundrum?
The money factor plays a big role in my decision as well, I applied to NOVA and UM- Got accepted to both/ come to find out NOVA is more $$$ because it's a traditional program that lasts 2.5 years but it is much closer to my home (I live in Fort Lauderdale- have a mortgage, family, and kid!) so I see where you're coming from. I think at the end of the day, I will go with UM because they have a great reputation, the program is tailored for individuals with completed undergraduate degrees... even though it is expensive, and in this case far from me.. it is still something that I am willing to invest my time, money, and sanity lol to be able to be an RN and a cane
I applied and received a confirmation e-mail stating they had received my application, that they were going to select candidates for panel interviews and decisions would be mailed out on 12/20/14... at this time I have not received any e-mails/notifications for any interviews... and I've asked other candidates as well, and they have not received anything either
Hi Everyone! I was notified of my acceptance last week also..Congrats to everyone else that was accepted and to those still waiting, good luck! I currently live in NY and am excited to make the move down to FL, my only concern is housing! Any FL residents can suggest areas/resources? UM's Office of Residential Life pretty much directed me back to their website. Also, any one going to make a FB page for the spring cohort? Thanks!

Hey there! Congratulations! The Res Life site is honestly a great place to start to get a feel for the neighborhoods and the price points. Brickell, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove are popular neighborhoods because they are close to the school but you're going to be competing with lots of other people who want to live there. If you're more budget conscious, try Kendall or Dadeland. Anything north or further west takes you to a lot of affordable options. The basic rule of Florida real estate is to stay away from the water and the "in-demand" neighborhoods where you can pay a premium. If you're looking to put down roots in FL, a realtor can be a great asset. Good luck!
P.S. I'm a lifelong Floridian and I lived in Miami for years.
Hi Everyone! Congrats to everyone that was accepted for spring 2015!!!
I am looking for a roommate, preferable female, clean, non-smoker that would be interested in living walking distance from campus! Since this is an accelerated and intense course it would be beneficial to live close by without having to move for 12 months. I went to the open house yesterday and spoke to some of the students that live off campus and there are some nice places its just finding them and its cheaper if you have 1 or 2 roommates. If anyone has already found a place walking distance and is looking for a roommate you can contact residential life and ask to speak with the off campus coordinator she has all my information. If there any senior nursing students moving out of their apt. that is walking distance from campus PLEASE contact me as well. I'm from Miami so I don't know the area that well and would prefer to stay in coral gables within walking distance.

Congratulations on everyone who has been accepted so far! I also received my acceptance notification via CaneLink last week thursday
I'm so excited! Anyone that is still waiting on UM's decision, keep your hopes up! I think they're doing it in order of applications (whoever turned in theirs first).
I see a lot of you guys have been commenting on living arrangements. I live in fort lauderdale so it will be quite a commute for me- I can't move any closer because I own my home and have a family, so I'll have to suck it up with the traffic for the duration of the program.
For those that had been accepted a couple of weeks back, can you guys share what you have done so far since turning in your deposit?
thanks!
