University of Miami ABSN Summer 2018

Published

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone else applying for the Accelerated BSN program at the University of Miami to start in May 2018? I am just finishing up my application now and hoping to submit it in a week or two. I'd like to connect to some others also applying!

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Could any talk about the housing opportunities around the nursing school campus? Any two bedroom places available for someone with a child? Is the area reasonably safe? Is Miami awesome? I'd really appreciate your feedback. Also, could you comment on the speed of this program? Do you feel like a 12-month program is too fast to learn nursing skills and physiology/path/pharm? Any thoughts?

It is such a nice program, but I can't figure out some of these questions just by looking at the website and I don't have enough time to visit the school b/c decisions are due this week.

I used to live in Miami. I loved it, but it's not for everyone. It's very culturally diverse and not the safest place in Florida, but then again, you have to be careful everywhere really, right? If you have children then definitely try and live close to campus in Coral Gables. It's a pretty family-friendly neighborhood and obviously being close to campus is always a huge plus.

UM's website has a student life and housing section. It's pretty cool actually very detailed. Definitely look through those!

For all of you that have been accepted, did UM say you had to take additional tests to be accepted? One school I was accepted to is requiring the Kaplan pre-nursing test. But they never mentioned it until after sending out acceptances. So annoying! I am just wondering if UM has any of these last-minute curve balls?

I know that acceptance is conditional upon completing all pre-reqs w. required grades, immunization records, etc. That's a given and I understand and it's noted prior to even applying. But I'm specifically referring to any additional tests, courses, etc?

@adnat86 Nope! no additional tests. Everyone just has to take a pre-immersion course online prior to starting the program in May.

Nope! No need for additional tests

Hi! I'm currently looking for roommates. I'm from Oregon, not too far from you/ I'm also not too familiar with the area.

yay! I'm not sure how to communicate best on this public site?

For those still waiting to hear, go check your Canelink NOW! I WAS ACCEPTED! I am beyond happy and excited to meet you all!

I just checked as well!! I am in!! I am so excited to meet all of you!!

Specializes in Perinatal.

When did you guys apply? My Canelink hasn't changed yet. I applied on February 1.

Yay!!!!!! Congrats!!!!

I applied in October but I did not have all of my materials in until mid-December. My canelink did not update to complete until the second or third week of January and I got accepted today.

My application date was 11/30/2017 and all of my stuff was finalized at the end of December and I still don't have a decision in Canelink. I'm getting so nervous! I just need to know! Is anyone else still waiting as long as me?
